On this point - "six months" vs "one year" - the TTP FAQ actually says both. https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov/faq?lang=en
Global Entry expiration dates extended due to backlog Because of an ongoing backlog in renewal applications from members of Customs & Border Protection's Global Entry trusted traveler program, the agency is now letting members keep their program benefits for 12 months after their membership expiration date instead of the previous six-month limit. <snip> "The one-year extension of GE benefits for those seeking to renew their GE memberships is helping to mitigate this situation, provided that the renewal application is submitted before the GE membership expires," the spokesperson said. <snip> The spokesperson said the extension of benefits to 12 months is effective for Global Entry participants whose memberships expired from April of this year onward, provided they applied for renewal before their expiration date. Membership cards will remain valid and usable during that 12-month period. <snip> |

Apparently not, as my husband has a clearance and has traveled to several "dodgy" countries that I did not. He got his new card in 7 days/no interview. I'm on day 91 and still waiting. We applied for renewal at the same time.

Follow-up to my husband's situation. Applied April 18. Escalated July 30. Email conditional approval August 6. Walked in with no appointment to PIT on August 13. Had the bizarre non-interview interview. No questions, just a new photo and fingerprints. Approved August 16. Card in mail when returned home from traveling on August 26.
Thank you to everyone for posting and giving us the guidance to keep pressing onward since mine was approved within days. One more thing...my husband received this in his August 6 email. Perhaps this will help with the 6 vs 12 month confusion... If you submit a renewal application before April 17, 2019 (before your current membership expires) you can continue to use your benefits (up to 6 months past the expiration date) until the renewal is finalized. We recommend you print out a copy of your TTP Dashboard showing that the renewal is pending to show a CBP Officer, if requested. If you submit a renewal application on or after April 17, 2019 (before your current membership expires) or if you are current in the 6 month grace period, then you can continue to use your benefits (up to 1 year past the expiration date) until the renewal is finalized. We recommend you print out a copy of your TTP Dashboard showing that the renewal is pending to show a CBP Officer, if requested. A follow-up interview may be required upon renewal. This is determined by the vetting center and the determination cannot be appealed. |
Hi,
Here is another data point. Second Renewal since joining GE submitted May 10, 2019 Conditional Approval with Interview received September 13, 2019 126 Days. One variable that may have played a part in the length of time is the addition of an APEC membership. I had requested to add it before I realized the delay on normal GE renewals. If you live in Southern California the only place with multiple interview spaces open is Otay Mesa Enrollment Center near San Diego. I was able to schedule the first available on October 1st. |
Can a US citizen do their renewal interview in Canada?

Finally Conditionally Approved
Applied for renewal 5/13 and was conditionally approved today 9/16. Just over 4 months.

4 months and renewal approved
Another data point - I was approved for renewal with no additional interview needed. I've traveled to a lot of countries in the past 5 years, some of which might be seen as sketchy. From start to finish, it took about 4 months. Got the card in the mail about 10 days after email notification.

We’re at 113 days having filed our renewals on May 26. Sounds like we should, could, or may get conditional or full approval around September 30. 🙏🤞

Yeah I'd say yours is coming up in probably about 2 weeks. Was disappointed I have to go in for an interview and PHX only has openings in Oct when I'm in Pittsburgh and then the next one is December. Would rather just get it over with.

I filed my renewal on 5/11 and got my conditional approval Sunday and my interview is scheduled for 11/27.

And again, I'm noticing a possible pattern - those of us living in AZ, CA, TX, where our renewals are supposed to be processed in those states, we're all waiting forever. I realized this week that my hubby and daughter's renewals got processed through the original center on the east coast (near DC), and I know mine is supposed to be processed through LA or San Diego (because at last renewal I had to go for the interview in Otay Mesa - 2014).
