149 Days
Finally! Mrs K and I received emails overnight telling us we were Conditionally Approved. Since both emails were time stamped at 12:25 AM that technically makes our wait time 149 days. Unfortunately we didn’t get full approval so will have to schedule interviews. A quick check this morning shows nothing available at SAT. We have no International travel scheduled so we’ll have to keep checking until we catch appointments.
UPDATE: Once I woke up enough and had the requisite amount of coffee I was able to schedule appointments at SAT. Interestedly when I looked earlier this morning there were no appointments available at SAT and we actually discussed a little road trip to Laredo, Texas just to get this all done and over with. Mrs K checked her work calendar and we decided to have me get two appointments. Logged back into TTP and all of a sudden SAT had several days open. We stuck with our previously discussed November 8 date as Mrs K is off that day and we can do it all in one trip albeit a short 15 minute drive. There is “light at the end of the tunnel” on what will be a five month renewal process. |

Interesting. The official FAQ says 6 months ("If you submit a renewal application before your membership expires, you will be able to continue to use benefits up to 6 months after your membership expiration date").
Global Entry expiration dates extended due to backlog Because of an ongoing backlog in renewal applications from members of Customs & Border Protection's Global Entry trusted traveler program, the agency is now letting members keep their program benefits for 12 months after their membership expiration date instead of the previous six-month limit. Faced with a large number of renewal applications for the five-year memberships and hobbled by unforeseen bureaucratic difficulties, the agency has made the extension of benefits available, but only to members who have applied for renewal before their expiration date. *** There could be some confusion about the extension of Global Entry privileges because some pages within the CBP trusted traveler program website still say that benefits are only available for six months after the expiration date for renewal applicants. The spokesperson said the extension of benefits to 12 months is effective for Global Entry participants whose memberships expired from April of this year onward, provided they applied for renewal before their expiration date. Membership cards will remain valid and usable during that 12-month period. *** |
For those whose GE renewal applications were or are conditionally approved and turn into a final approval after an “interview”, note that it is possible that you may still receive an additional email about using enrollment on arrival or scheduling an interview even after the change in status from conditional approval and its related email were sent out. It’s nothing to worry about.
Some GE members whose renewal applications are in conditionally approved status, the purpose of needing an “interview” may be to update the biometrics on file and have an updated photo on the GE cards. In such situations, there may not even be a single question asked of those in such situations. |
Renewal application submitted Oct 18th afternoon. Email notification of conditional approval was sent about an hour ago. I have a couple EOA-eligible trips coming up so will try to get it done that way I guess.

This is my second renewal having signed up the day it was announced originally. Fortunately I was in air coming for my last trip of year so maybe 3 hours between email and interview on arrival. Had to do all new biometrics. Also had a ton of questions about an arrest 15 years ago. Prior interviews were never this much of a hassle. There was a moment where I expected he'd demand more documents but in end he seemed to clear it once fingerprints came back clean. So seems like for second renewals a biometric and photo update is needed. |
I recently received my second Global Entry card after 5 years of heavy usage as I travel by air and abroad a lot.
Once you receive the actual card in the mail, the notice that comes with it emphasizes that you then have to go online to activate it. The flyer I received gave a web address that is expired (https://ttp.dhs.gov), and I was redirected to the cpg.gov site that has replaced the previous site that they still display on the instructions sent out. Fine--that's the site I used to re-apply in the first place. I had noted down my login and password information, and got in with no problem. However, after nearly an hour of trying to find out how to activate my new card, I experienced the following: --There is no clear option on the site for new card activation that I could find; --The "Ask us a question" link on the site was inactive; --The "Call Us" telephone number did not answer (no ring, much less a pickup). Can anyone advise? |

So I am dealing with a renewal, not a first-time application, but my question here applies to anyone I think: Once you receive the actual card in the mail, the notice that comes with it emphasizes that you then have to go online to activate it. Thank you, flyerCO.
I was not able to get to the page with the activation button before--maybe I did something wrong--not sure. But with your guidance it worked and I could activate the card easily. DCFlyerguy |

ttp.dhs.gov is the correct website. I clicked your link and logged in fine. Once logged in, it'll redirect to ttp.cpb.dhs.gov. Below the program name (once logged in) should be a link that says activate card.

Global Entry Renewal -- A One Year Extension??
Did I understand it correctly? Is there an automatic one year extension of my GE Card Expiration date because the gov't backlog is taking them so long to process my application??

Question:
Has anyone who is still Pending Review AND past their expiration date noticed if their TSA-Pre benefits are also being extended? My expiry is coming up soon, and still crickets... Thanks. (Pending Review Day 135, hubby & daughter both received new cards in 7 days, no interview) |
Hi,
I was past my expiration date and still pending review during several trips. TSA Pre remained active. |
