8 months and counting! Renewed Aug 31, 2022 and so far nothing yet. Pretty extensive travel history but mostly to EU countries, and Saudi Arabia. Perhaps that needs to be checked out manually?

For everyone's info, I gritched at my local congressperson about the amount of time it was taking for some applications/renewals to get approved (referencing this thread). This is the core of the response I got:

"According to CBP's official policy, applications are processed in the order in which they are received. However, approximately 20% of applications require additional review, which may result in a longer processing time of about 9 months. Please note that CBP does not disclose the specific criteria used for this review due to national security considerations."
Not particularly helpful (as expected), but at least it felt better to register my discontent.

I have it on good authority that FlyerTalk members fall into that extra attention category .. 😁

My Global Entry just expired last week but I did apply for a renewal back in Aug '22. I am told the the Global Entry privileges are extended 24 months past the expiration date. But if I fly domestically and use the Known Traveler Number that I got from Global entry, will it still give me the TSA Pre-Check status for the next 24 months or do I need to now apply directly for a new TSA.gov KTN?

The CBP will extend the all the Trusted Traveler Program benefits for members who applied for renewal before their current membership expires pending the final approval of the renewal application. The includes TSA PreCheck.

From the DHS Trusted Traveler Programs Frequently Asked Questions:

If you submitted a renewal application before expiration of your current membership, then you can continue to use your benefits until the renewal is finalized.
---
If you submit a renewal application before your membership expires, you will be able to continue to use benefits after your membership expiration date.

Phew. Applied for renewal June 2022. Got e-mail notifying change of status today. Renewal approved. 11 months.

I am actually happy with the outcome of straight approval - job change and 30+ new countries visited in the 5 yr period of previous GE.

A couple of years ago, I had an unusual experience at Customs in JFK. My wife and I returned from Italy and after we picked up our bags, we got pulled aside by a customs agents who went through our things and asked us what we were bringing back. We said nothing as we had a house in Italy that we were remodeling and then they totally lost interest. I speculated afterward that CBP knew we had wired substantial sums to Italy (house purchase, remodel...) and we had been flagged for a teardown when returning. Once they realized that the $ was going into a house, they moved on. It's possible that my periodic money transfers to our Italian bank triggered a review for GOES/TT.

Renewal submitted 5/8 2:14pm, approved 5/9 1:25am. Happy to not require an interview this time around.

5+ months and counting. Maybe they found a post I made 12 years ago about sneaking some kinder eggs into the US from Germany :P

Is there any way to expedite the process, after waiting many months?

Renewal came through within 48 hours of application, even with a visit to Russian Federation.

Unfortunately no

Renewal is coming up for me at the end of June and I am traveling to Canada 10 days later. If I apply for renewal and get a fast approval, is the old card still good until the new one is activated? E.g. if I'm in Canada when the new card is shipped does the old card become unusable? I want to make sure I can still use the Nexus lane on the way back - huge time save.

Old card is valid until new Global Entry card is activated.

Mrs. Majuki submitted her renewal application, which was her second renewal, on Thursday at around 2:15 pm PT. The application status change e-mail arrived overnight today at 1:40 am PT. She was approved without an interview in just under 36 hours.

Over the last 5 years she had visited ~15 destinations, mostly in Europe or Asia, with nothing being notable as far as being out of the norm. She had one change of address and no change of employment.
