There are also those that renew AFTER EXPIRATION of Global Entry. If one submits a renewal application AFTER EXPIRATION, TSA-Pre and Global Entry privileges are not extended, i.e. ones CARD and account is no longer valid while waiting for approval.. However, on the TTP Dashboard, the Application Type is shown as "Renewal".

Maybe I am a one-off, I mailed in the same envelope renewal application for myself and my wife. Two separate checks, applications, and checks are separately grouped. My GE was expired but my wife's was not. Both of our renewals took the same 300+ days and we got the approval without interview emails within an hour of each other.

I got my new GE card a week before my wife's who is getting it today, 16 calendar days after the email so I guess 2 weeks' of business days within the window.

My global entry expiration date is this week. I submitted my renewal application months ago (probably sometime in the fall). Still says pending
A family members GE expires next month. She submitted her renewal application this past Monday, and got the approval notification today!

I don't get it

No one gets it. Reported times vary from a couple of days to hundreds of days. I've yet to see a suggestion of anything useful to do other than wait. There is a one year grace period.

The extension of benefits is for 730 days or two years after the original expiration date pending the final approval of the renewal application.

Would you know why the renewal email includes the following? This was received a few days ago:

"Due to a significant increase in application volume, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is extending the grace period from 6 months to 1 year for any Trusted Traveler member who has a valid membership and who has submitted a renewal application. This means you will continue to receive full benefits for 1 year while U.S. Customs and Border Protection is finalizing your renewal application."

Seems to be an out-of-date template.

From the most recent CBP FAQs on this issue:

Renewing Global Entry Membership

You become eligible to renew your membership one year prior to program expiration. If you submit a renewal application before your membership expires, you will be able to continue to use benefits up to 24 months after your membership expiration date, if your renewal does not get processed in time.

Hello there, fellow July 24 applicant. I’m here to add another data point.

Applied for (my 2nd) renewal on 24 July 2022
Application still in “Pending Review” as of today, 20 April 2023
270 days elapsed — Still waiting.

My wife applied on 10 April 2023. Received email that her renewal had been approved, without interview, on 13 April 2023. 3 days elapsed.

🤷🏽‍♂️

Are there significant difference in your and your wife's applications?

Only significant difference is that I wasn’t born in the US (but I am a US citizen) and she was.

Not sure I’ve seen others mention this … daughter renewed and got conditional approval. Scheduled interview - way out of course. Last week she got an alert/email that she’s been approved. Not complaining but …

From reading the above post I just received renewal about a week ago and the only button I see is replace card. I guess mine is in process??

Got my GE auto renewal within 3 days after submission.
Are they supposed to send out a new card ?
I thought it was electronically recorded with the new expiration date on my US Passport info ?

Only choices I see are: Activate card and Replace card.

I don't get it

This is what I understood based on my conversation with the TSA agent who did my Mothers interview; Once you submit your application, it goes through automated checks and if there are no flags then you get approved quickly (like 2 days) and if there are flags then someone will have to manually review your file and approve it. Before Covid this manual process would finish in like 2 weeks but now due to extreme backlog, limited staff and higher number of applications; this process is taking longer than usual. The office I was talking to said that they had called in a few officers from other office to help out clear the manual backlog.

Interestingly in my parents case, both were born outside of US and are not citizen yet. Mothers got approved in 2 days and dads still pending since Dec'22. They have not traveled internationally in last 5 years and have lived at the same address. So essentially the only thing that differs for them is name, gender and date of birth

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- whether approval takes 3 days or 300 days seems to be rand:om.
