My wife is likely about to apply for a card that comes with GE renewal and already renewed this year, so if I can wait another few weeks to a month for her card application and delivery I really want to. Thoughts?

With wait times potentially getting longer, barring being one of the lucky immediate approval renewals, I’d apply now. Not sure I exactly understand what you’re saying about your wife but her status has no impact on your renewal application.

My wife is about to get a credit card that pays for GE renewals but since her renewal was done (and paid for) earlier this year I want to use that CC's reimbursement for myself. But that would mean renewing in approx 3 weeks. No international trips planned I just want to make sure it's a renewal not a new application.

Anyone can renew their GE membership any time they choose, but only within 364 days of expiration (the day after your birthday, the year before expiration). GE memberships last 5 years, you can renew during that last year of membership - and you cannot renew during years 1-4.

As long as you apply before your current one expires, it will be a renewal. I waited a few weeks before submitting my renewal application to take advantage of a new CC reimbursement, but I still had 7 months before expiration. With the current 12 month grace period, you “should” be fine, as long as you get the renewal application in before the current expiration.

My partner got their GE automatically renewed in 2 weeks, and our travel history is almost identical. Maybe the determining factor was that I am a permanent resident. What's interesting is I was still getting tsa Pre on all recent domestics Did not get it on international.

Finally got my card in the mail. That took about 5 months. Interview took 10 minutes (don't recall them asking so many questions for my original application) Have you ever been arrested, ever had a DUI, etc

Another data point:

Renewal Date: 5/6//2019
CA date: Still Pending
Total days (as of 8/23/2019): 109 days

CA 9/9/2019 - Total days at 133. No escalation.

Well this thread inspired me to get moving on this today.

I am a little bit from 6 months before my expiration. Updated all my info and can't believe reading this thread that it could either be 6 days no interview of a 6+ month slog.

Glad I got started today. Will update as my experience continues.

Slightly nervous as in the last 5 years I have traveled to 60+ countries, and some of them are not your common tourist destinations.

Lots of media reports that it may take a lot, lot, lot longer than in the past. My suggestion has been that people reapply as soon as the window opens.

+1

My second renewal is coming up in about 60 days. I have a calendar reminder set so I can get my renewal in at D-364.

I am from the Seattle area, and I received my renewal in about 2 weeks. My wife had a new application approved in about a week. I have only travelled internationally to Australia and my wife has never travelled international. We both have held numerous DOD security clearances and had concealed carry background checks, if that makes any difference. I wonder if the delays for some is related to previous, numerous international travel destinations?

Apparently not, as my husband has a clearance and has traveled to several "dodgy" countries that I did not. He got his new card in 7 days/no interview. I'm on day 91 and still waiting. We applied for renewal at the same time.

Posting a non-update update:

US Citizen (4th gen)
Second renewal (third application)
Applied 5 months before expiry in November
Travel to Europe, Canada, Australia
Hubby and Daughter applied at the same time, 2 and 4 months prior to expiry - both got cards within 1 week
We live together in the same city near the border with Mexico
Travel outside the US mostly together (although hubby traveled to way more countries, some of which might be seen as sketchy)
Hubby has a clearance
Daughter is an immigrant US citizen
Only change to my renewal app is to state that I no longer work

Hubby and daughter got new cards 1 week later

ON DAY 91, STILL PENDING REVIEW

Have marked calendar to call and escalate on day 110

Has anyone on here called lately? If so, what was your experience?

mizzou65201 Sep 11, 2019 10:35 am

Mrs. Mizzou just did her first renewal. Application submitted after business hours on Friday Sept. 6. Received approval notification today, Wed. Sept. 11., with no interview required. Two business days would seem to be a new world record...

On this point - "six months" vs "one year" - the TTP FAQ actually says both. https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov/faq?lang=en

In response to FAQ question "I have submitted my Trusted Traveler application for review. Did CBP receive my application?", the answer includes "If you submitted a renewal application before expiration of your current membership, then you can continue to use your benefits until the renewal is finalized (up to 6 months after your expiration date)."

However, in the same FAQ document, in response to question "How do I renew my Trusted Traveler (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST) membership?", the answer includes "If you submit a renewal application before your membership expires, you will be able to continue to use benefits up to 1 year after your membership expiration date."

I would assume the original author of the FAQ is not the same person who was tasked with updating the FAQ with the new "one year after expiration" policy, or perhaps just missed that the previous "six months" rule was mentioned in two places.
