Global Entry Renewal Question::'
  • My Global Entry has expired
  • Applied for renewal a month before the expiry
  • The application shows "pending review"
  • Have a trip coming up in 2 weeks
  • Is there a "grace period" associated with the renewal application (ie 90 days after Expiry and still pending review)
  • is can I still use the Kiosk - has anyone tried it (while renewal pending review)

Since you applied to renew your Global Entry membership before it expired, you will continue to receive Global Entry membership benefits for up to six month after the original expiration date pending the final approval of your renewal application. There are some recent reports in this thread that the grace period has now been extended to a full year.

From the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website:
I have submitted my Trusted Traveler application for review. Did CBP receive my application?

If you submitted a renewal application before expiration of your current membership, then you can continue to use your benefits until the renewal is finalized (up to 6 months after your expiration date).
And:
When will my membership expire and how soon can I renew my membership?

On renewal you may or may not be selected for an interview. If you submit a renewal application before expiration of your current membership, then you can continue to use your benefits until the renewal is finalized (up to 6 months after your expiration date).

After 109 days, I finally have good news to report:

I applied for renewal on April 16th, 2019 and received notification today, August 3rd, that my renewal has been approved. No interview necessary.

Best of luck to all who are still waiting!

My wife and I, with identical travel over the past 5 years and no other relevant differences in our facts, applied 15 minutes apart in mid-May. She was approced in less than 10 days and I am still pending. Clearly they are not processing renewal apps in the order received.

Global Entry Approval Time - anyone's guess

I see many post of getting approval in days, couple weeks, under a month. I'm at 105 days and counting. I had global entry but it lapsed on on Feb. 26 I applied again and credit chard was charged Apr 25. Still waiting for conditional approval. No idea why some go quick and some take forever. The lasted word I received was that delays have increased as agents have been shifted to the southern border to handle the increased number immigrants. So, we at least learn the order of priorities. Oh, but of course the $100 fee is charged right away. Why do some get processed quickly and other not? It's really anyones guess. There is no consistency, no valuable information, and no response to submitted questions on status. It's a crap shoot. If you are up against a travel date, I would not risk that your global entry is processed. Seek other options.

Folks,

The Trusted Travelers forum is informational. Members come here in search of data points and practical advice about applying for and using the various Trusted Travelers programs.

This thread is for keeping track of processing timelines of first time Global Entry applicants.

Please limit your postings here to seeking and providing practical information, and sharing news, experiences and data points about Global Entry applications approval timelines.

While some limited natural deviation from the topic is obviously acceptable, please let's keep the focus of this thread on reporting approval times.

Complaints, commentaries, opinions, and rants about about government bureaucracy and speculations as to why some applicants experience longer waits for the conditional and/or final approval of their GE applications belong in the Checkpoints and Borders Policy Debate forum or OMNI/PR (access to OMNI is limited to members who have been on FlyerTalk for 180 days and posted 180 contributive posts).

Future non-informational content will be summarily deleted.

For those who applied after expiration date and were approved: What is the date when your new membership starts?

Since they make us wait 3+ months on renewal, I hope they don't shortchange us for that time, and the new start date is when they actually approve.
109 days wait today.

the first part needs to be deleted, i am not sure why but this is the problem.

That's probably a software glitch.

Please report it in the Technical Support and Feedback forum.

Two recent data points:

I renewed 6 months ahead of my deadline, my renewal was approved in about 5 days, easy peasy. US citizen frequent traveler with ~15 countries visited.

I attempted to renew my minor daughter but ran into a glitch. When reviewing her auto-filled and perfectly correct passport data, an error appeared that the passport data do not match the "profile" data. So I returned to the "profile data", and sure enough, the Global Entry profile somehow omitted her second surname. This is seen on her Global Entry card as well. Note that this is her second renewal, so this condition has persisted for 10 years. I attempted to change her Global Entry profile data, which resulted in an error. I abandoned the process.

I didn't get around to trying again until a few days after her expiration date, with the same results. I used the "Email us your question" web form on the cbp.gov website and selected those various levels of "select a topic" and explained the situation. In about a day, I received a response, and after a couple more exchanges over a few days the issue was fixed. Kudos to CBP for this feature. A few days later, I completed the application online. She received conditional approval in about 10 days, requiring an interview.
