I applied for Global Entry renewal on April 23rd, hoping that I would be renewed before my Global Entry expires on July 20th. 87 days later my application still stuck on "Pending Review" status.

Folks,
This thread is about the Global Entry renewal process. While some natural deviation from the subject of the thread is obviously OK, please let's not derail this thread too far. For indexing and future search purposes, if you wish to continue discussing acceptable ID's to use at TSA security checkpoints, we have several threads discussing those, including the following: Acceptable Identification for Domestic Travel [Consolidated Thread] Thank you for understanding,Flying with Expired ID/Driver License? I called in to check on my status and after numerous hangups, I was finally placed in queue for an agent (are they really there 24/7 like the recording says?).
20 minutes later, agent comes on and immediately goes into the "it takes up to 100 days" and "you have one year after expiration to continue to use benefits" before he would even look at the application. I thought it was only 6 months? Didn't bother challenging him on it. Finally looked, said no issues pop up, and that "it's only been 81 days so keep waiting." Flagged calendar to call on day 101. TL;DR: Don't bother calling until day 101 as there's nothing they can do until then. |

Long time lurker and 3 time Chicago Seminar attendee who first wants to say thank you for all the info that you have shared that has allowed us to travel many places for minimal cost. We are Rock Star travelers among our friends but feel like rookies compared to all of you...
However, I want to share our GE renewal experience which is similar to Hofstra Jet's post from yesterday. Mine expires in the fall, Mr. JG expires next year. Applied for both of us on April 18. My new card came in the mail (no email) within 2 weeks. Mr. JG is still "pending review." I decided it was time to call because it was past the 77 day mark that has been mentioned in posts. I do most of the travel wheeling and dealing but I knew that I couldn't make this call so I prepped him well!! July 18 calls (using number in a previous post with the punch in's mentioned which he said worked like a charm) around 4:30pm and gets message that they are closed. July 19 calls in am and gets message that they are open 24 hours, have a high call volume and then they hang up on him. July 19 calls around 3:45pm and after about 20 minutes gets a live agent. Was told that he was only on day 92. He would have to wait until after 100 days to call again (sigh...) and then his app could be escalated. Interestingly, he was told that because he applied on 4/18/19 his coverage was extended to 4/18/2020 which is NOT a 6 month extension. Our travel histories are exactly the same but the one difference, and this was mentioned by a previous poster, is that I had trouble getting his to go through at the end whereas mine went through without a hitch. In any case, I don't even want to think about this sitting on my To-Do list for the next year! Again, thanks to everyone for your help over the years! |
Apologies if this is posted elsewhere, but Global Entry Enrollment Center LAX is closed due to agents reallocated to the southern border: https://www.latimes.com/travel/story...tely?_amp=true This is one hypothesis for the delays. |
I was wondering if GE Renewal has the same /process/timeline as a new application.

I applied for renewal on July 17 and just received an email today (Sunday no less) that my application status has changed. Renewal has been approved.

Be careful with this. When I tried to do this at O'hare the agent got pissy and said its only for people that don't live in the US and told me to do it in the office instead
When it comes to emails from CBP to interview-required GE renewal applicants that note that EOA is an option, they are not targeted to just applicants living outside of the US, as they are even sent to applicants living in the US. |
Are renewal applications funneled into certain regions? The approval response pattern seems random, so I'm wondering if it's a function of some offices having a more extensive backlog than others? Or are applications likely assigned randomly and it's a question of bad (or good) luck?

I renewed mine on 5/13 still in Review Pending status. Thankfully I'm not traveling for a while as mine expired mid July (totally forgot about it and renewed late). Hoping I get the review done soon.

Finally got conditional approval
Took about 15 weeks for me to finally get my CA. Was also lucky to find an interview slot in about 30 days from now. My partner got their GE automatically renewed in 2 weeks, and our travel history is almost identical. Maybe the determining factor was that I am a permanent resident. What's interesting is I was still getting tsa Pre on all recent domestics Did not get it on international.
