Had the Lobster Thermidor on SYD-BKK End of November. It was Kind of a mixture between lobster with cream sauce / bechamel and a proper Thermidor in its shell. May be they just forgot to bake it?? But it was nice and tender. BKK-FRA I opted for the traditional fillet of Beef but somehow they forgot the liver patê. It was soso.

LHR-BKK the lobster was very good (& very unhealthy).

The sweet and sour fried fish main was not great at all.

Just a warning: I preordered one of the Thai Sets on a BKK-NRT redeye, and was only served the main curry (along with bread and fruit) after waking up and prior to landing. I was extremely tired and had little appetite so I didn't raise the issue with the crew, but for anyone who expects the whole meal to be served I recommend you confirm this with the purser before going to sleep.

Lobster Thermidor ex NRT

I am thinking of trying the lobster thermidor on my next flight. Has anyone had this ex NRT? From what I have read this dish can be very good on certain routes, but there have been negative reviews on others.

Also, if I do not like what I pre-order, there will be no problem ordering something else off the standard F menu, right?

I have the same question for ex KIX please. However when I go online, pre-order is not available for that flight. Does it mean that there is no pre order meal option ex KIX?

No problem at all subject to availability.
I have had the lobster and found it dry but others have found it ok so I will try it again next month. I am flying LHR-BKK on the daylight flight in order to avoid F on the A340 so will have a lot of time to kill with a very long lunch. I may have the lobster as an extra course if they have a Thai curry available.
If you don't see anything on the F menu you fancy they will offer J meals as well.

I thought the Lobster Thermidor is only available out of BKK.
I always found the menu for pre-ordered meals quite different whether you depart from Bangkok or some other airport

The J meals are on the F menu already.... including the Y curry.

I beg to differ.
If the "Y curry", as you call it, is on the J menu how does that make it Y? On a flight in September one of the meals on the F menu was chicken green curry and superb it was. I could not give a stuff whether Y got the same dish, does that make a difference to you? Why?

On a flight in October the prawn dish was not to my liking so I sent it back and because I did not care for any of the F alternatives I was given the J menu which did have items not on the F menu.

I recall we have crossed swords before on this subject:

"Oh, the Y classics."

My reply to that was:

Sneered the nouveau riche.

Thai Air have won awards for the quality of their economy class food so why not give it a try? It may be the same as in Y but does that make it inferior? It will also come in a porcelain dish in C or on a nice plate in F. You might find it tastier than the F class fillet steak where the apparently succulent red centre is actually dye.

Ask any visitor to Thailand who actually gets out of their fancy hotel and eats where the Thais eat, "Where did you eat the best Thai food? The answer will not be a five star hotel but more likely a roadside stall.

The quality of Thai food unlike western food bears no correlation to the quality of the surroundings and almost no correlation to price. In fact the reverse might be true, the chicken you eat at a tiny family restaurant could well have been running around the family yard the day before whereas your 5 star chicken will be sourced from a battery farm where it has been injected with growth hormones while alive, water when dead and then probably frozen.

Part of your subsequent reply was:

"I stopped years ago flying TG internationally, but I remember the Thai food was always too blund [sic] for me."

So how would you know anyway?

Cannot connect to the meals pre-order page

I have tried a couple of times recently to look at the options for an upcoming trip, LHR:BKK in F, and have been unable to connect to the page. Is anybody else having this problem and is there an alternative method to place an order?

TIA

If you are on an award flight the Amadeus booking codes have changed so you need to get the new one from Thai
