Trying to book my flight BKK-SIN-BKK for the Sin mini do this weekend was a nightmare. The website will not book flights in F out of BKK for some reason.
Tried to get through to the BKK office to book the tickets but after 45 mins still no one answered. Finally gave up and called the Sin office. They made the booking but if they issued the tickets then it was going to cost about USD250 more than having the ticket issued in BKK. So I decided I would try BKK again.
I was on hold for only 30 minutes this time before someone answered. Unfortuntely although this person works in the reservations department she had no idea how to issue a ticket. Finally she got her supervisor who did know how to book at ticket. I was thinking that I was almost done but then she asked to put me on hold again. I waited for 15 minutes before she came back and said that she could not put my FFP number into the booking because my first name is too long (it is four letters long). So I can now look forward to the pleasure of trying to retroactively claim my miles form Kris flyer. The last time I tried to do this it took five e-mails to get them to realise the fact that I had received miles for a flight I took on the 8th of May was totally irrelevant for the fact that I was claiming miles for a flight on the 2nd May. In the end I got my PPS sectors but they never put the miles to my LH account or my KF account.
I have to say if it wasn't for this being a party flight my business would have gone elsewhere and I definely will not be booking with SQ again until they get the process a bit quicker than this.

Is it really that much of a hassle and chore to book from BKK? Cos I'll be doing 1 booking to LAX/YVR ex-BKK, stopover SIN both ways (1 for a forced layover and the other to keep 1 more flight to BKK). Do you suggest to book/enquire via email or to call them.

Read somewhere on the webby that says the website upgrading for Thailand will be done only at the earliest, end AUgust.

I managed to get an ex-BKK flight two days ago using the Thai SQ site. Also confirmed it with a call to the Reservations. Phew.
Given the current ho-ha about the SQ website, the best bet is a tel call... provided the agent can handle the request.

On another note, I'm glad that I no longer get that old message from the SIA site 'due to customer feedback this site is optimised for ...' followed by two specific browsers, one of which is the least standards-compliant browser around.

Workaround - update passport info
If you want to update your passport info, you would intuitively expect to update under 'personal particulars'.
The trick is to select 'My Booking Alerts' and update your passport info there. Then click on 'subscribe' and when you go back to 'personal particulars', your info is updated. Voila!

Some bugs fixed (I can now see the aircraft type as well as the seatmap for particular flights when attempting return trip bookings ^ ), some bugs not (multi-city / stopover option still isn't working for some SE Asian destinations I tried out
).
