Surely you can remember row 5 on the 73H's before they realised the pitch was around 27" ...

I have to say I was unimpressed with the seat pitch in the domestic 737-800 yesterday SYD-BNE. Was in 05F and had very little room (all 1.70m of me) and it seemed like 30" pitch? BNE-TSV was much better on 04D.

The JetConnect 737-800 has a much nicer interior and seat pitch more like 32".

There is a significant difference between rows 4 and 5 on the QF 737-800s. That is why there is so much emphasis placed on scoring row 4 by many members here.

The seat layout is exactly the same for VH- and ZK- registered (QF mainline and Jet Connect) 737-800 aircraft. All have 3 rows of business class and 26 rows of economy for 12J/156Y configuration. The actual seats vary depending on when the aircraft was fitted - i.e. some have in-seat IFE and some don't. But the layout and pitch is the same.

Interesting. My conclusion that the ZK- aircraft have a slightly better seat pitch than the VH- aircraft was entirely subjective of course. Perhaps the seatback TV makes all the difference, or maybe the 03:30 early morning arising has dulled the senses by the time I board....

Well aware that row 04 has benefits (just a bit tricky to snare one as a lowly NB!), and I was also pleased with row 14, especially with a blocked centre seat.

I'll try and remember to look at this on my return flights.

Also, any idea of what the loads will be like and potential upgrades due to oversold Y given the timing of the flight?

Any ideas/ answers on this one - I have the exact same question. Is bulkhead seat 23B a good or even the best choice in Y on the A330-300?

If you are 6' or maybe a little more, then OK for a day flight, no good for night flight (if you plan on sleep).

6'6"? - then avoid.

(There's a little more room in row 23 on the international 330-200's.)

QF21/22 Sydney-Tokyo....I had selected seat 31A in PE, now its changed and I have no more seat assignment and the PE seatmap has changed to the 14P/52J/32PY/255Y model, is this one of the upgraded ERs I can assume? So if they change the equipment and I lost my seat selection I wonder what happens...

You select another seat...

This happens fairly frequently with 744 services. If you lose your seat assignment it is a relatively safe bet they have changed the a/c config and you will need to reselect. Not sure it is an upgraded ER ~ it certainly features the old F and J configs.

Indeed.

Pretty disappointing, 31A looked great, now there are no bulkhead seats at all left. I wonder is it worth leaving the selection until 24 hours in case blocked seats suddenly appear.

Also wondering if anyone can help, its the first time I've tried to use points to upgrade. I've only got 37.5K and its costing 30K to upgrade on one leg of QF22.

I wonder could anyone tell me whether I have better chance of being allowed to upgrade on QF21 on November 14th, or QF22 on November 20th....

I would select the best currently available and then call QF to discuss. There may not be much they can do unless some seats are blocked but unallocated.

Blocked seats

So do QF actually unblock/release seats closer to date of departure? Flying SYD-NRT-SYD next March/April and want to get two seats together at the back of the 744. Have scored a pair on the outbound, but the inbound (April 6th) is showing them as blocked as is most of the Economy cabin. Guess this is due to still being months away? Any help appreciated. Would a call to QF be of any use and help to try and secure them? Thanks

Yes, they do changes the "blocked" seats regularly. Blocked seats are presented differently to each passenger by the computer system. BUt in general, at 80 hours before scheduled departure there is a review of teh blocked seats and at that time you may find different seats made available to you. But it still depends on things like your status and fare purchased.

Thank you for the reply. Since I have no status with QF and the fare is a sale fare my chances of getting those seats seem slim! Looking forward to flying Qantas anyway.

if it has changed to this type of aircraft are there any PE seats showing in a 2-3-2 configuration? If so - those will be business class (full flat but angled) beds. Sometimes part of that cabin is given over to PE. I'd secure a seat there if you can, or check back 80 hours prior to departure to secure one.
