Westin Resort and The Romanos, Costa Navarino, Greece [Master Thread]

I'm really sorry that we didn't meet The Daddy! Would have loved to hear about yr experience!! Didn't realise you were still there - wow three weeks!!

Didn't understand your point vis a vis service though. We found it poor. Its a luxury collection hotel and you can't say its cheap. If you like the area there are other options

Did you believe that the service was 4-5 star quality? From recent comments doesn't seem that I am the only one complaining about the service but from your post its unclear what you thought about the service.
Put it bluntly - I wasn't comparing here to a Mandarin Oriental.. I thought the service was poor - unfortunately on several occasions and yes, we expected ( maybe wrongly ) better, more attentive service

Indeed a pity we did not meet...or maybe we did...:-)
In any case, to answer your question, yes, I found the service to be absolutely and undoubtedly solid 5 stars standard troughout our stay. And trust me I am a very demandind guest.
As i said the service did not (and did not pretend to) match completely the luxury top benchmark (name it Aman, MO, FS, RC....etc...) but it was definitively genuine and up to my expectation.
We did not have a 24 on duty butler, as i experienced in several other resorts, but there was a "floor responsible" that introduced himself to us on the very first day and showed up once in a while to check if everything was fine. The service express call did work perfectly.
I would rate the service I experienced in the following category as below reported:
Housekeeping - vary from good to very good.
Bell Boys and Buggy service - From good to excellent
Restaurants - from good to excellent
Front Desk - Not really had many opportunities to judge it, but in the few cases, excellent
Service Express - From very good to Excellent. The only time there was a delay in my room service order they even call me in the room to let me know that due to an accident (the waiter had follow with the order) there was the delay
Pool Service - A part the Aquapark, the pool service is almost not exsistent. This is my mayor concern and frankly speaking i don't know why they put a call to service button on every umbrella if then nobody come. This create frustration and irritation. Better to keep them away until they are ready. But it was not a big issue to me. When i needed something I just walked few steps to the bar and got it. It is true that they often run out ot towels...but it is true as well that i never waited more then ten minutes to see towels replaced. It is a very easy issue to fix and I hope they will fix it shortly.
Health Clubs and Spa - from very good to excellent

There were always tables free anywhere, always umbrella and sunbeds free everywhere (and i saw them increasing umbrella and sunbeds to the beach and pools according to occupancy)...the resort was immaculate clean every moment, everywhere...this to me is part of the service.

Finally, coming to the price point. Standard room (both at Romanos and Westin) starts in very high season from around 200 euro and there are often several rates lowering it consistently like the 30% advanced payment (which means entry room from 140 euro!) or the pay 2 get one free.....now to me this is absolutely cheap compared to other five star top properties all over Europe...and I have visited so many and there are very few in such unspoiled region and with so upscale grounds/buildings/decoration.
Personally I has a suite that costed me much more then that but still it was a very good deal imho.

I'm sorry other guests, as you said, did not had the same positive experience... but I'm happy I did and will certainly be back as honestly I doubt I will found a place in Europe where my family and especially my children can stay better then here.
Please feel to ask any further detail.
best
daddy

Not sure what a "floor responsible" is, but I don't believe i interacted with anyone like that during either of our stays. Not sure if this is a status perk or something else (I am a lowly SPG Lifetime Gold), but this sounds like you were singled out for special attention for whatever reason.

Thanks Daddy for getting back
One area I avoided was the pools - much preferred the beach!!!
No floor responsible here either - would have helped!!

@terminalfive

I'm start thinking the "floor responsible" I met, might have been just a proactive housekeeping supervisor looking for more......recognition

Any updates on this property?

Looks like the Cash & Points rates have gone up significantly this year and are not available for most of the core summer period.

Just returned from costa Navarino

Managed to persuade my husband to return for a three day break, we want two years ago, wow the hotel and service are maturing, we had great time, He was over the moon with the golf course, says its becoming the best in Southern Europe, the golf staff were wonderful and the suite great.
He was so happy that he informed me that we are not going to Cyprus as a family as usual, but that he has booked an Infinity Suite at Costa Navarino and a room for the kids.
He has entered one of those moment auction things as well? Golf with Colin Montgomery. Can any one on here tell me which is preferable the infinity suite at the Westin or the same at the Romanos?
We have only ever stayed at the Westin?
Will let you know how it goes?

Avoid when busy

We have been at the Westin for a week and while there are a lot of service failings and the onsite restaurants are hugely over priced generally for what you get there is also a lot to like about the location and friendliness of the staff.

Today is the first day however the resort has been busy and to put it bluntly it cannot cope, I have never seen such a mad breakfast scene, it seems to be included for everyone at the resort and there is no seating order, people just circle around waiting for someone to leave, which means if your lucky you get a table in 10 minutes but if your unlucky you could be waiting a long time. Even when you get a table be prepared to queue 3-7 minutes for everything, so an orange juice 5 minutes a coffee 7 minutes, the omelette 6 minutes, the toast was the only result, only 2 minutes!

In travelling around the world and staying at places with many more rooms and I thought some of the Asian or Vegas buffets were mad but this was just mismanaged to a level I have never seen, to the degree I am wondering if anyone was actually managing it at all or they just don't care! The annoying thing about it is the staff who are running around like headless chickens trying to keep up through no fault of their own are really nice and taking the brunt of the complaints from the guests, yet is is clearly a management issue rather than the fault of people here!

Add to the above the fact even the "health Club" is actually just another location children can go, there lap pool at the health club has not age restriction despite there being 3 or 4 other large pools at the resort meaning you cannot do laps at all and this was earlier in the week when it was quiet, now it is crazy and the one under 16 free zone, the whirlpool is also full of kids and absolutely no attempt or desire by staff to do anything about it.

I will do a full report when I get home, but for anyone considering coming here as a couple don't unless it is a quiet season! If you have kids I would consider it, but make sure you have a car or you want to pay a lot of money for very average food.

Has anyone stayed there more recently? I'm particularly curious about how they treat the Platinum breakfast amenity, especially when it appears that everyone had access to (free) breakfast anyway.

I would like to know the answer to the breakfast question, as well. We had a lovely stay there a couple of years ago, but the breakfast buffet (which was incredible, yes) was 40euro per person. there were not any other options other than their little coffee shop which had some VERY sweet dessert-like pastries and that's it.
We would love to go back...
They did give us a very nice suite upgrade as platinums.

So no one on FT has stayed at CN since June 2013? Hard to believe here!

Romanos

I spent 5 days at the Romanos last week. Wonderful property, even when its full you never have the feeling that it is crowded. The views are beautiful, the facilities are first class. The Romanos is really a higher class than the Westin - which is also very nice but not so refined and sophisticated as the Romanos.
I stayed in a infinity grand suite, the private pool is very nice, its not completely private since the occupants of the suite upstairs can see it. But apart from that its a great luxury. The pools of the infinity rooms are a bit smaller, more like plunge pools, while those of the suites are really nice and comfortable.
There was nobody checking room numbers at breakfast, so it seems like breakfast is included for all. I asked for breakfast as my platinum amenity, and in the end I got breakfast and the 500 points. Restaurants are expensive, so you can either dine on the property - easy (and good) but expensive, or try the many small restaurants in the villages nearby, which are fantastic and cost about 1/3 of the price. Since the resort wants to boost the local tourism and economy, its good to eat outside - all the good places are within 15 minutes by car or taxi.
All the staff were really very friendly and helpful. This is really an amazing resort, I wish I had stayed longer!

Thanks Stoontje. Any suggestions of specific restaurants you enjoyed/preferred? I'll be traveling with my wife and 3 year old. Thanks!

Songer5, I've been twice to Elia (http://elia-gialova.gr/), really good, very nice and quiet location on the beach. You can eat very well for under €20 per person. If you want to have an unforgettable fish experience go to Argiris (aka Nikos Thalassinos) in Marathopolis. It's a bit more expensive (€35-40) but you get an amazing location (got there by sunset) and some of the best fish you can have. Really close to the resort is also Ammothines Restaurant Beach - Bar, simple place with very friendly staff, good food and a nice beach. In all these restaurants there were families dining with small children so I think you will be perfectly fine.
