I'm curious.. Do you know if there is a charge for just using the spa if you don't have any treatments? The spa sounds wonderful!

Thanks again,

Hi Dina,

In response to your question above, the charge for using the Heat Therapy area and Thalassotherapy pools is 25, however as l'etoile mentions there is no charge with the purchase of another treatment.

Flawed Diamond or polished service

This is a wonderful property, we are are here already 4 nights, and have another 3 or 4 to go, the pools the rooms the physical product is superb, the golf course has to be the best in Greece by a mile, which is great news for me i really am fed up with Corfu, Halkidiki, Crete, Athens, this is the real thing a great product.
Human resources on the other hand must struggle I spent 40 mins yesterday waiting to be served and another 30 after being served in a restaurant, room service tea took 50 mins( tea for two) after returning to the room, and finally today it took 40 mins in a deserted diner to be served and 30mins to pay the bill in the end i left, telling them to bill the room.

I do not want to give the wrong impression but staff training needs to be worked on, I guess staff are seasonal, but trained they need to be this could be the best resort in Greece.

Now the Internet is flawed I have so far purchased two gold packages, that do not work, and given up completely on the free system. The tech chief needs to use the system himself a little,

I did not have problems with the Internet, but two devices (iPhone and laptop, for instance, could not be connected at the same time as one would force the other off). I could use the slower service for one and the other service for the other device without issue. Don't know if that's at all relevant or helpful to the problems you're experiencing.

I guess the system does not work if you have two iphones and one laptop, we bought two packages and tried to use the free on the laptop?
I seriously think these hotels need to crack the problem, the good will they use up far exceeds any loss by people abusing the system just make one flat charge for an open system per stay change the password every week.
I believe you can not judge a hotel on less a 5 day stay,

Yes, that's what I found. It's a bit of a hassle and I only signed up for the free service for one-day since that was the only option for that and I didn't feel like doing it each day I was there.

The pay-for service (though free for plat) I signed up for five days, but I constantly had to log in and out as I switched devices so it was a bit of a hassle.

There was not an option for three devices to each have a separate log in as once you chose one of the pay ones, the others disappeared.

Just got here on a 7 night stay. Unfortunately no suite upg provided despite asking (that is the ONE stay per year where it would have been useful as traveling with the family...and no, i could not have paid for the suite if I wanted one because it is 8 times the price...(this is where the Hyatt cfd upg get me hooked)).

We were given a deluxe with a private plunge pool. While this upg was still much appreciated, the setup is bizarre as there is no privacy whatsoever. The balcony of the adjacent room is fully open towards ours without any protection. I called the front desk and asked if we could put the flower pots on the wall but that was declined (safety I guess). I could tell we were not the first ones wondering.

We were offered to move to another room which was appreciated.

Two other weird things:

Guest service lady told me only slow internet was free for Plats (and everybody else) and I would benefit from collecting points...probably a training issue.

Strict age controls at the water slide...our not-quite 6y old daughter couldn't help but cry...even in most US hotels (where this is usually stricter) she was allowed to use...and that was last year.

So not a perfect start, but the resort does look great and it is main season starting...will see how things shake out.

Just some additional comments on our stay:

Overall we really had a great time. It is a beautiful resort, and we as well as the kids loved the facilities. Even though the hotel was quite full the resort did not seem crowded (with exception of the parking lot).

The golf course is simply spectacular, I played in the Wednesdays competition when the rate includes buggy and rental clubs.

The kids went to Sandcastle twice and enjoyed their time there. The price was reasonable (EUR 20 a day per child).

The restaurants are very expensive by Greek standards. Since we had a car we ate elsewhere (our favorite was Zoe in Gialova), and just used the Souvlakeria and the ice cream shop.

Breakfast was a bit of a concern. The place gets very crowded during peak time, and the eggs made-to-order people seemed to work in slow motion. We simply gave up on it (20-30 min wait).

The only real hickup was probably the SPG Plat recognition. Upon arrival we were checked in by a pair of front desk ladies, both of which were from the 'SPG Plat receive 1 category room upgrade' party. Since they had given us two cat's as upgrade they did not really care about my request for a suite. One of the ladies even said 'if you wanted to be upgraded to a suite you should have sent us an email beforehand' - which is exactly what I did, and in the email the reservation staff had said they would do their best to upgrade us to 'the best suite available'. So all in all a bit of hit and miss, but the hotel was quite busy, so we did not push it to the limit.

On the other hand it was the one family vacation stay per year where the upgrade is worth more than on 20 business trips combined, so we were a bit disappointed. There was also no special amenity in the room (opposed to what was described in this thread what other people seem to have experienced).

I checked back a few days later, and for the final two nights we were given a standard suite (no pool) which was much appreciated. There was a medical conference going on in the hotel, and it was obvious that the suite had been blocked for one of the delegates (conference folder in the room upon arrival) - so a guess would be that they decided to upgrade conference delegates (VIPs, perhaps ?) over SPG Platinums but then reversed the decision upon my second request...?

A fantastic plus about the suite is that you can have breakfast in another restaurant (the Greek place by the pool) - this was heaven. Slightly smaller but more exclusive choice, and very quiet and relaxing.

Overall, we would return, and the staff was excellent and friendly. I would hope to receive a bit more elite recognition, though.

Well I might just add my two cents as I'm staying here at the moment and I have the same doubts about this wonderful place.... (a longer trip report when I'll get back home...I'm taking lots of pics!!!).

I booked with a cash and points award before the category change back in February, so I had to add only 90$/night. At that time I still was only gold and after booking a standard deluxe seaview room at the Romanos, I was offered and I accepted a paid upgrade to seafront room for 35$/night.

Then last month I finally managed to become platinum and emailed the property about my status change.

They confirmed that they took note of it and that they would do their best to offer the best possible accomodation for my stay.

Nevertheless at check in all I was offered was a seafront room. I had to insist twice asking if my platinum status would allow them to upgrade my room to a suite and only at the end, after a call to some supervisor, I was given a Grand Suite (which is great!!).

Now my doubt is, am I still supposed to pay the extra 35$/night for the upgrade or not? At the check in they didn't mention it at all, but now looking at the bill on my tv screen the 35$ are there....
In my opinion I received a suite and that's just in line with the platinum benefits, I shouldn't pay any extra for it? Or I am wrong? Maybe when I accepted the paid upgrade I already obliged myself to pay this sum no matter what? But then...if the suite upgrade is my standard platium upgrade...and if I have to pay the 35$ cause I already accepted it...where is my paid upgrade?!?

I'm confused and I'm asking your opinion before taking this issue to the hotel....
Honestly the place is so great and the room I was finally given it's so nice, that I would likely be not that upset about paying also the 35$ per night....but still...I would like to know where are my rights in this situation and what would you do...

kid's club fee

The new fee for 2012 is 60 euro daily for kid ???!!!

I'm used to pay big money for services, but i believe this a bit too much?

All in all having two kids i should add 120 euro a day only to have them in the kids club?!

I hear the last year it was 20 or 25 euro....how come they improved id so relevantly?

If anyone is heading up to greece this year, just be prepared for potential strikes.
Last year got caught up with one. Could not rent a car, and Hertz has the last vehicle available for EUR 350/day. I sucked it up and rented it.

I wouldn't overstate this problem. Yes, strikes happen, but they rarely last longer than a day at a time.

I don't think it was improved, but I seem to remember in the discussion that the old charge was considered very good value. I have no position as I have never used this type of service.
