Agreed TerryK, similar to the $1k->$5k update and the "is the customer standing in front of you?" update.

That memo is supposed to direct all CVS to manually enforce "cash only" sales before POS update. We will see what happens.

I used to be an operations manager for a chain retail store. Its been many years, but pricing and software downloads did happen concurrently. This is important so that pricing reflects current advertising. Sure there are occasional glitches, but if they plan on rolling it out tomorrow, the register updates shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for the passport method posted earlier. I was able to hit one CVS for 5k using my passport, my gf using her DL for another 5k with my CC, and then another CVS for another 5k with my DL about 2 hours ago. Northern VA store managers knew nothing of the upcoming change.

It's probably not a great idea to be asking your favorite cashiers about if they know anything about a cash only policy. Just wait until tomorrow and see what happens. All you're doing is raising suspicious at this point.

Why even ask? People should just buy and if denied, then ask. If all goes well then the don't ask don't tell policy works better, especially if the memo is only regional.

True. I have been to about 4 different CVS in my area and only one had the question as of last week. So it will take time to update systems. However all of the stores I have been to today (3) had the memo. I was told they got it today.

Unless they are totally incompetent (which is possible), it should take no time to make a change like this. You are only talking about a few skus to update. Its not rocket science.

One store in Long Island (Nassau County) has been requiring cash only or debit for the past month. Same store was limiting such purchases to $1000 maximum per day.

Another store was still allowing CC's up to $5k, and did not receive the memo about Mar. 31.

So if this is national, not regional, is it just beans affected, or VGCs too? The way I read the memo, it looks like they're dead too, but am I missing something?

WoodenRobot Mar 30, 2014 7:02 pm

No such memo..

Just returned with 3k beans here in Midwest. I asked manager if she got memo about "cash only by 31 march", showed me a paper(doesn't look like the one that is circulating online) with tittle "Must Read" with ball pen, which still accepts CC for prepaid/gc/VR. She then called her boss/corporate to confirm, negative! I originally wanted to swing by at midnight to test, but that won't be necessary, I should be fine. She assureed me I can buy them with CC even tomorrow no problems. I just think it's a regional thing. Cheer up!:)

Two stores in Boston Metrowest worked fine after 8pm EST. Second one cashier said cash only memo was "not a rumor."

Just bought $4k at CVS in Jax. My go-to store. They reminded me that tomorrow it's cash only.

Depressed.

Any way to see the results of the survey in the Wiki? I submitted my answers and got a page inviting me to sign up for kwiksuvey, with no obvious link to the results.

So should I be hitting cvs tonight and getting 5k in vR seems like a good idea

Sure, he's only got 9 posts, but this supports my post from an hour ago, that I think this is a regional thing, primarily affecting the East Coast. For the Midwest, at least outside of Chicago, it seems like it's biz as usual.
