1. Buying more than 5k in a day.
2. Tinfoil hat. |
The barcode on my DL is too worn out to be scannable, and I'm not eligible to renew my license for cheap for another month or so ( I could go in person but it would cost like $50). I guess it will be all small purchases for me for now.

$1000 load amount. Fee is outside the calculation.
So you can do $500 + $499.95 and the register would not prompt for DL swipe if this is your question. |

single transaction or 2 separate transactions?
Each transaction is independent. Therefore if you only buy 1 at a time, there is nothing in play. |
I'm still trying to get a handle on the limit of $5K per day with a DL swipe. There's conflicting information in this thread. One post says it's per store but going to a different store causes no problems; one says it's across all stores, even for a store in a different state. Another post says it's a rolling 24 hours time limit, so that if, say, you purchase $5K at 1:31 PM you have to wait for 1:32 PM the next day to purchase more.
Here's my datapoint. I purchased $5K in a store yesterday at 1:28PM and another $5k in the same store today at 9:59 AM. So it doesn't look like the rolling 24 hours notion is correct. Please post your own datapoints. Let's share information and pin this down. It's likely the software is the same nationwide... |

I'm talking about the way the DL scan is handled. It's supposed to restrict a buyer to $5K per day maximum in GC purchases; the register is supposed to block you from buying more once you've reached the $5K limit for a certain time. This is the computer system. I believe it's the same from store to store. What happens if you try to buy "too soon" is that a message pops up on the computer screen saying you can't buy what you're trying to buy because you're over the CVS limit for your purchases at the moment.
I'm trying to pin down what "too soon" means and when you can buy more when that message restricts your buying. My own limited experience, FWIW, is that the cashiers/managers that are still saying cash only and/or no more than $1K a day don't know, don't remember, or don't care that the national CVS policy changed. |

FWIW, it's something more than 15 hours (on 2 different calendar days), but something less than 22 hours. Not sure where in between the clock resets for us.

Just bought 7K worth again today, I went to 5 different CVS, I have a "route" I take that places me on a course that isn't out of my way. 1 CVS did not have any beans, two only had one, the others I was about to buy 3 to 4 in a single transactions without triggering CVS, so this 5K limit must only be if your DL is swiped... Now, I have been able to do this in multi cities across the US..

I went to Safeway and bought a Visa Gift card for $500, the cashier did ID check and wrote down my DL number on their slip...

Today I got in line behind a guy who purchased eight VRs, all for $24.95 each. In cash.
As dirty as I felt watching him do it, I also felt like thanking him. These are the people that make selling VRs at CVS profitable. |
