Manager at local CVS I visited today said the 5k per day policy will be instituted soon.

They'd better stock reloads and the other important cards reliably. |

150k/mo per store chain.

I tried to buy 2x500 variable-load prepaids and had to swipe my ID. But the system that reads the IDs was down so the cashier told me she could do it as two transactions without swiping my ID, which we did. So it isn't just VRs, and it does depend on the number of cards and/or the transaction total, at least at my regular CVS.

Today was my first time ever buying VRs. I guess I'm a late bloomer.
Data point (Jacksonville, FL): First CVS location had dozens of VRs, but only took cash. Second CVS location had about a half dozen VRs, but took my credit card. |
From PHX area: Visited two of my CVS "regulars" the last few days. Been frequenting them for about a year now. First one required two transactions of $500 each (inexperienced cashier) and second one allowed $1K per transaction, but both required driver's license to be swiped. Chatted with the 2nd store mgr and he was kind enough to show me a two page presentation from CVS Corp which outlines old vs new policy on gift cards, green dot, VR, etc. sales. Only significant change was $5K/day limit tracked through license swipe.

My two local CVS stores have been out of stock for a month now. This is getting ridiculous. Cmon, I just want to meet my min. spend and get another Citi AA card!

i went to local cvs, wallgreens, and 711 stores here in SF bay area and they don't allow credit card payments on VRs. I can see it in their screen that VR's are tag as cash only transactions. Am i missing something here? :D

I love how CVS is doing this right. They will make more money in the long run. I'm happy to give them additional business that I normally wouldn't. I never went to drugstores before I came to this forum.

bought 2k of VRs with no ID check in the same store today (there has never been a limit in this location).

ID check for 1K ...then the mgr got pissy and said cash only. I could tell he just made it up as he kept saying it's always been like this from the start, even when I had used my cc a day ago at the same store.
