Because somebody put their time & money to find that information in real life. But, you don't want to put your time to locate that info. I mean, you should know that TEMP BB can't be loaded by checking BB's web site, but you didn't. You should know what you are buying before you make a purchase. C'mon.
I'm not wanting to discuss the Citi thread, I'm merely stating that FlyerTalk users commonly post information contrary to company policy that is sometimes successful, and that was my purpose in asking about temp BB cards. |

I don't think that's a relevant argument. You have to admit that Flyertalk has advice and information that benefits the reader contrary to what companies may have posted. Part of this site is posting about successes contrary to what companies policies are. Look at the Citi madness for instance. What if someone wanted an AAdvantage card, but went on the Citi website and saw "Only available to existing cardmembers?" the 50k offer completely contradicts the website.

The option to start/edit the wiki should be there for everyone, be better than the flamers and start it yourself ;).
Best advice I heard all day. |

Yes, there are hacks. All I'm saying is, did you put your time locating info you seek before you asked a question? I don't think you did. If you did, present what you did, then ask a question. Then and only then, I think "oldies" wouldn't have a problem.

I read somewhere that someone got a fraud alert for Barclays and it was a nightmare. Like the cashier had to get on the phone and verify everything. It took a long time. Was that an anomaly?
Anyone having issues with Barclays?

I used my Barclays card at CVS yesterday. Here's what's interesting.
I NEVER use the card. Bought two $500 VRs. Charge WENT THROUGH. THEN got the call and email from Barclays. Called the automated system to calm everything down, and account went back to normal. 24 hours later, available credit reflects the purchase, but nothing in Pending Transactions on the website  |
If the aim is to track by person with multiple cashiers, scanning ID doesn't help.
I have multiple ID forms (and have been able to use expired ID before, too.) I.e. First, I use (Canadian) passport Then, (B.C.) DL (this is expired, though I am still able to use it >98% of the time when I go to the U.S.) Then, NEXUS card Finally, care card (though again, this isn't even valid as I am not resident in Canada, and might not work due to no photo, though the name matches the CC.) This doesn't even include ID from other countries I have. |

Correct me if im wrong but dont most IDs (including passports) have a bar code or something of that nature. My guess is they can't read the information they scan but it acts as a finger print since no 2 bar codes on these ID are supposed to be alike. So whether you use your Passport or DL....the barcode is all they need to ID after the fact.

Went and bought 1k of VR at CVS (i usually dont go to this shop). I give the VR cards and ask for 500 each to be loaded. Like people have stated, the 2nd card triggered the ID check. Scanned the back of the ID. When she gave me the ID back i asked her if this was a new rule. She goes " Yeah, you know the spies are using this a lot, so they started this". I said " Spies?". She goes "Yeah, Spies!!! And you are paying with your own credit card, so i dont know why they are making people like you do it.. By the way, they need an ID for everything here now, we cant even sell nail polish without checking the ID. I tell you, soon they will be asking for ID when you purchase Chocolates." I just said "oh wow, well have a good day" and left.
Now i think she meant Identity thieves but she was very adamant on the "Spies" part. Now i have heard everything!!!!:D |
I wonder if you deface or put a smiley face or one of those I Voted sticker on the back of your card will it be okay? Im not sure if it scans like a barcode at a grocercy store. It may just recoded whats there...
