I am officially changing the name of VR...

VR...
Vee Are.

Ok so there's this rookie from the Houston Astros named Johnathan Villar

http://houston.astros.mlb.com/team/p...level='ALL'

And well, in Spanish, the "ll" is pronounced "y" so he' actually Johnathan "Veeyar" or VR

Soooo I now want to call them "Houstons"

Whose in!?

I never, ever argue with them. You're in a no-win situation and the manager will almost always back the clerk. It's just not worth pissing someone off. I do the same thing that I do with the airlines: Hang up and call back.

Over the weekend I went to 3 different CVS with varying results:

1. uninformed cashier said cash only. I politely disagreed, but ended it there as it was pointless to continue
2. The manager rang me up, but he had to double check the policy on the phone. After a few minutes I decided to buy 2k with ID scan
3. Cashier doubled checked her little memo and rang me up for 3k.

Agreed
I want to tell em what for but i find i must refrain

Anyway as for the telling the stores its about miles thing... I do not think we should highlight that. We know its not wrong, the ccs and airlines probably dont think its so wrong, but store clerks, managers and their loss prevention and compliance departments may think differently and for their own sometimes illogical reasons.

If we out another mile-ist by telling the nice old lady clerk what we think hes really buying them for then many things could happen: for one the clerk feels stupid. And lied to. The other person now is a liar in the minds of that store.

In some cases the management has nice old lady clerks finesse you with friendly innocent questions and by telling them things in chit chat they now can build a profile on what they think you are all about. They could have it completely wrong but once this happens its too late and the bell cant be un rung. And even if you are deemed ok to do this for miles, we dont know if they want or like others doing that too--especially not the guy who is now a liar in their minds!

I find it best therefore to say little or say gift, ebay, pay bills. These they can accept. Miles are a scam and a luxury item for people they cannot be and therefore dislike. Thats at least what many of these mgr and compliance types are like, in my experience

Hmm this is cool! I may get to see VR or whitney tonight as the red sox play the astros hahaha

I could see it now... If he became the next big thing, everybody in the stands would be waving vanilla reload cards when he came to bat

What I want to see is in the breaks they scan the cameras around for the Megatron and they have a Whitney-cam and highlight fans waving them!

We are! Haha

Yes a few people in the bleachers dressed as whitney houston doing some dance where they act like they are swiping the bb and pouring the vr card into the bb over and over or something. During the 7th inning stretch

Just to follow up. A regional manager has no idea of this program to scan IDs but apparently it is rolled out selectively because a most stores I contacted do not have this requirement but few do.

I'm guessing it's a loss prevention thing of some sort but I'm not certain. I'm betting there is some kind of manual override like there is sudafed.

Edit. Its a loss prevention thing because people take these out of the store by the boatload. If the store orders 1000 beans often 90% will be taken out of the stores. Only 10% are rung out in the store so it's a theft issue sometimes. I'm not sure how the ID thing works to fight it though.

I don't think this is a LP issue at all.
1) these cards have no value until activated by a register. So cards with no value will not make it high up the LP to do list. Even with incidents of card tampering (almost exclusively in the ATL area) the best and most effect remedy is to keep the cards behind the counter. Making new tamper resistant is on Incomm.
2) 5k a day with ID scan does not at all address the issue of unactivated cards moving from 1 location to another. Even if you are ringing up transported cards at a store that claims to have none, all you have to say is you found it hidden on the rack. Not hard as all you have to do is stand in front of the rack for a few minutes and rummage around. No one is going through every stack to ensure homogeneity.

3) There is no way to reliably track relocated cards.

A member whose says he/she is a CVS employee noted that GCs are not tracked in inventory. Basically someone from the GC division comes around and orders or restocks the GC rack. Most locations run out and get restocked on Monday with the delivery truck. I think I read that managers have the ability to request more or less.
