The idea is the extra 1% goes to offset your MS on your Club Carlson, your UA cards, your UR cards, or whatever you are MSing on. So you now have 0 out of pocket cost on your miles and points thru the MS method.

Though I am sure there are also people only go for the 1% extra cash.

If there are folks like Frequent Miler the blogger is willing to go thru a lot of trouble to buy things thru portal then later to resell it so to get UR pts with low or little cost (I doubt very much one could make much of a profit doing this), then the 2% route is much much simpler and much much less work when you do both the 2% and the miles/points cards at the same time.

2) If i have to buy 10K of VRs a month, is it better to buy 500/999.99 per day activity or 2 transactions of 5k? I am asking from my exposure from a credit card stand point and a cvs stand point.

If you talk to CVS HQ it could turn into a real issue for them and make things worse. Just like all miles deals, I and probably everyone expects this to end some day and ruffling feathers could bring that day sooner.

Maybe you could casually mention that another CVS let you buy more or something, or else I'd just accept it.

2) This is a personal decision but I'd do 2k - 2.5k or else use different credit cards on each visit to spread out the spending.

Is the DL card being scanned an issue?

Corporate policy is a maximum of $5k per visit. Individual stores are allowed to set their own policy as every store is a unique situation. Stop trying to "prove" something and work within the parameters given. The only thing you'll end up proving is that accepting CC for VR is more pain than it is worth and will lead to it being shut down.

What exactly is your question?

The register is programmed to prompt for a DL scan when the value of load is at $1000 and above.

The only way to avoid the prompt is for the value below $1000 (fee does not count). Plain and simple.

Can't believe to this day there are still folks dont understand that CVS stores have a lot of discretionary power on how the individual store is run.

Should I complain to Corporate why 75% of the CVS in my area does not even carry VR? Instead of driving 1 mile I would need to drive 5 miles to get my VRs. Hey, CVS Corporate, do something about this!

Work with the parameters you are given or the limitation in your area. Else go outside your area to find your solution. "complaining to the corporate" is not going to change anything to the better, quite the contrary.

One of my CVSs started stocking a gift card that has holiday packaging. They are out of everything else (I think that CVS even removed the gold packaging ones from this store).

These new ones have a picture of a gift with black wrapping paper, glitter polkadots, and a turquois bow.

I bought a bunch of these and they don't work at Walmart or at one grocery store that I tried. 2 Walmarts, it came up "alternate payment form required," and the grocery store (Super Fresh), says "not authorized."

Anyone having a similar experience?

I do that sometimes and it has worked but usually does not. At one CVS a couple weeks ago I said something like "That's funny, another store told me they got a notice saying the limit is now $5k". Two of them actually started looking for the notice, found it, and a minute later my transactions were done. But more recently, after saying something similar at another store, the cashier said "NO!NO!NO!NO!. I think I can still hear her :)

This advice is way too sound for reckless new msers of ft that act on impulse and without wisdom

Of course one could consider bringing in a receipt from another cvs to show whats possible but then, this cvs will wonder wth youre doing buying "so many" of these things and think you MUST be fraud.

I tend to resist temptation with my vr moves and simply accept that the added time to do <$1k is worth it so as to avoid pains that could burn a store.

Its a constant balancing act-- like a pitcher always in the stretch

these are actually $4.95. But, a lot of the holiday ones are more expensive, you are right.

One CVS been out of VRs for at least 6 weeks now. Cashier said they are still supposed to be carrying them - but the warehouse hasn't been sending them out - sounded like this was a known issue to him.

Second CVS 3-4 miles away which I bought some at 3 months ago but hasn't had any since had about a 15-20 of the new branded ones (with more logos). They usually tell me $1K limit, but made it away with 2K today.

This is suburbs of Chicago so this might be more proof to what others have stated of some shortage in mid-west distribution.

FWIW, I managed to get 8-$500 VRs today in one single transaction with absolutely zero problems. The only question was from the cashier (non-manager). "So what do people do with these? I have another guy that always comes in and puts $500 on each card as well."

This was in VA, west of D.C.
