What exactly is your question?
The register is programmed to prompt for a DL scan when the value of load is at $1000 and above. The only way to avoid the prompt is for the value below $1000 (fee does not count). Plain and simple. Can't believe to this day there are still folks dont understand that CVS stores have a lot of discretionary power on how the individual store is run. Should I complain to Corporate why 75% of the CVS in my area does not even carry VR? Instead of driving 1 mile I would need to drive 5 miles to get my VRs. Hey, CVS Corporate, do something about this! Work with the parameters you are given or the limitation in your area. Else go outside your area to find your solution. "complaining to the corporate" is not going to change anything to the better, quite the contrary. As for the DL, I normally try and get less then 1k just because they scan my DL if i go over it. I do understand why they do it and working in the financial services sector gives me a great understanding of AML etc. I just dont know why i feel uncomfortable getting my DL scanned. Not only from a scanning stand point but also from a credit card manufacturing stand point do i take this approach. Everyone has their own way, i try and stay below the radar (my version of it). So the question was just to see how other people felt about it. That is all. You guys can all relax now and stop getting over excited. |

One CVS been out of VRs for at least 6 weeks now. Cashier said they are still supposed to be carrying them - but the warehouse hasn't been sending them out - sounded like this was a known issue to him.
Second CVS 3-4 miles away which I bought some at 3 months ago but hasn't had any since had about a 15-20 of the new branded ones (with more logos). They usually tell me $1K limit, but made it away with 2K today. This is suburbs of Chicago so this might be more proof to what others have stated of some shortage in mid-west distribution. |
great to see many of local CVS allows to buy $3000 GC per day (with CC) including white Vanilla, paypal and the others, wellsfargo visa has 5% rebate during the first 6 months

Of course one could consider bringing in a receipt from another cvs to show whats possible but then, this cvs will wonder wth youre doing buying "so many" of these things and think you MUST be fraud. I tend to resist temptation with my vr moves and simply accept that the added time to do <$1k is worth it so as to avoid pains that could burn a store. Its a constant balancing act-- like a pitcher always in the stretch i am doing $5k at a time and surviving without my tin foil hat |
Lol
Well mine set off alarms at wmt and i dropped 16 mos on the ground as the alarm sounded lol So ive been without one for ages |

One of my CVSs started stocking a gift card that has holiday packaging. They are out of everything else (I think that CVS even removed the gold packaging ones from this store).
These new ones have a picture of a gift with black wrapping paper, glitter polkadots, and a turquois bow. I bought a bunch of these and they don't work at Walmart or at one grocery store that I tried. 2 Walmarts, it came up "alternate payment form required," and the grocery store (Super Fresh), says "not authorized." Anyone having a similar experience? |
2 of my regular stores have not only been out the past couple of weeks, but the previous vr space on the rack is gone- filled with serve cards and the tag behind them is for serve.
a supervisor who knows me said he thinks the vr's are being discontinued because they will be doing reloads on the register. he showed me a prompt to load a card. he said it wasn't live yet but was supposed to be soon. both stores were always very well stocked before. IAH area |
I have been away from this thread for a while due to my move.
Anyone has had any trouble with new DL scan policy? I mean getting any inquires from big brother? I have cutdown my VR spending big time since they started scanning the id. Just don't feel comfortable with it. Relying on other options for now. |

Well, just when I thought all was well and the VR's are back with a 5k limit, one of my cvs cause me problems....Last week I purchased in one transaction 5k worth the reloads at one store. The only oddity was the cashier said 'I don't know if is will work, I've had people get turned down buying this much. '. I said that as long as my DL is scanned it should work, right? Used my ink card, went thru fine left the store.
Today, went to different store, tried to buy 4k in one transaction, cards were scanned as well as DL and nothing. Register sat there at least 1 1/2 mins and then she showed me the display and the register was rejecting each vr! Ah, ok let's try it with 3 vr's. After delay, it's rejected. Ah, let's try two now, well that gets processed and tthen my card is declined. It was a ua card. Not wanting to leave empty handed I politely asked if I could try again for 2 vr's with my ink card. Scanned cards, DL, and then done. Ink card worked no problem. I am going back to my old way of buying one in the pharmacy and two up front with one of them being 499. More stops, yes. Zero hassle, yes! |

Actually register is programmed to require a DL scan for anything over $500. I have verified this in two different stores in two different states.
Unless both cashiers were misinformed... which wouldn't be out of the question either. My experience has been that anything under 1K would NOT prompt a DL scan. So two $495 VRs purchase is ok. The cashier may still ask to see your DL, but that is just to verify the name matches what is on the credit card, not an actual scanning of the barcode on the back of your DL. This is based on my purchases made in IL and NY. |
