That CVS sounds like a tourist destination and may warrant a mileage run. Where is it located? :D

There are many CVS's by PHX airport, one could fly in, buy as many beans as possible and fly home in all under 5 hours.

Bahahahahaaaaa! I'm laughing out loud as I type this.

:D I would have had to let that go. Paying a fee to touch the nasty...no thanks!

I've got ritz, marriott, fidelity, hyatt, Hilton, delta cards. All my min spend is done, so just looking for a good card to use. W

I use it for a portion of my MS, why not? Especially since if you get shut down by Fidelity...who cares?

The only thing I've heard about them (accurate in my experience) is relatively low credit limits ($5k here), but that's YMMV of course. Of your cards the only one worth MS on is Delta (assuming it's platinum/reserve). Of course that's only if you don't think Delta's going to fixed-value redemptions in the next enhancement cycle.

That's one of my favorite cards, except at CVS. Every time I make a VR purchase, they block it and I have to call fraud to get my card unblocked. I have the Fido Visa, though, so Amex might be different.

Don't know if it's a Visa/Amex difference or what, but I've never had a problem in the course of many visits to CVS.

I have the Amex version, and while I got the fraud call 3 or 4 times I specifically asked each time if there was a way to remove it because I would be making large purchases at CVS frequently. Each time they said they would change it, I guess the last person finally got it right because I haven't gotten a fraud call since. So if you're annoyed by the fraud call, just be very specific that you make these charges often and want them to remove it. It'll eventually work.

It's like two blocks over from my office, so convenience. And they've never had any objections to my purchases. Like I said, my wacky purchases are actually considered normal.

Care to share what city?

Today my local cvs introduced a new policy - all prepaid cards must be on the single transactions. I usually buy vrs separately, in order to avoid Id scanning.

So I guess there is no limit on how many you can buy...

Getting sick of uneducated managers.. had an authorization slip print out where cvs has to call to get transaction approved. Happened several times before, cashier calls in, confirms cc info, and they get a code to put in the computer, boom its done. Today cashier calls manager up, he says if they call it won't go through, has to be cash only. Oh well, I'll go back tomorrow..

Folks are doing this on a 2% card? It doesn't really seem worth the trouble at that rate (since you're giving VR 1%), but I guess if you went in and bought $5000 at a time, it could be (marginally) worth the effort.

A 2 part question :

1) If the CVS employe doesnt let me buy more then 1k, how can i prove that it is now 5K? I understand its best not to argue but i am wondering if maybe calling CVS and complaining about this is the route?

2) If i have to buy 10K of VRs a month, is it better to buy 500/999.99 per day activity or 2 transactions of 5k? I am asking from my exposure from a credit card stand point and a cvs stand point.

5k came in a company email. You can ask the Mgr to check. Otherwise, find another store. Each location can be more restrictive based on clientele. Complaining may just make it worse

IMO, 2 $5k. Just go ahead & knock it out.
