This is under the heading of "French people abroad" though. They already have French passports and French health care numbers. So it might not be rolled out for tourists in the same way.

France is preparing to launch a new system enabling visitors from non-EU countries to obtain a French-format health pass certificate in early August, The Connexion has been told…Tourism Minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne has previously stated he is working on a system for validation of foreign certificates, along with the digital and health ministries. Tourist industry media tourmag.com reported yesterday he has told them he is still “working on it”. “We should be able to turn their vaccination certificates into a [French-recognised] QR code,” Mr Lemoyne added. “The foreign office has put in place a special team of around 50 people to work on this specific issue.” |

Some more info on the situation. It’s in French, but you know what to do :)

Regards But they replied that the CDC card will be fine. However, I'm prepared to try to get a pass sanitaire if it is possible to do so online as some are predicting. I'm also resigned to the likelihood of having to take a test, with the data presented by the CDC today that vaccinated people are as infectious as unvaccinated people when it comes to the delta variant. |
Louvre, Eiffel, Cattacombs
Quick update. Was able to get into Louvre today using CDC. Also dropped by the pharmacy noted by opera and was able to get QR code and used it to go to catacombs. In any case, would suggest the opera pharm. Sure it's 20 euros, but was a no hassle experience. They saw our CDC card, put us in line with about 8 other people and with card and passport walked out with QR code. In any case, official now so rest of trip no need to debate if somewhere will take CDC card..

Exp, when do you arrive in France/hotel?

Sure and, on top of that, the French article referenced above only applies to French citizens resident in the US. The French official used as the basis for the article is (according to Google) the deputy heading up the legislative committee on French citizens resident in Canada and the US. It does look, however, as though the IT solution being worked on -- at the Quai d'Orsay -- should apply to everyone vaccinated in the US regardless of citizenship. His piles of sweet, sugary words then end with the following bit of saccharine aftertaste : "Roland Lescure hopes that 'the measures [IT solution] will be clear in the next week,'" i.e., the week the whole scheme goes live. Really?
"Hopes"? What on earth sort of confidence-inspiring word is that? And what about the missing sentence, the thing nobody can bring themselves to say, en claire, and in plain words of one syllable? You know, "Well, it would be unthinkable to go live without something in place for US visitors." So I'll go ahead and say it myself. And I still wouldn't cancel anything. |

Well just our luck. Went to the pharmacy by the Opera, and were told the bad news. The French government sent out a message on Friday to all pharmacies to stop converting CDC cards to the Healthpass due to fraudulent CDC card concerns. The only way they can now legally convert it is with a offical letter from the US embassy stating that the CDC card has been verified by them and is genuine.
We just ended up getting a rapid test (25 euro per person) since we are going to the Louvre tomorrow. This really sucks as the US embassy has no way to verify your CDC card, but we will check on Monday to see if they will vouch for it regardless. |
