I'm due to take AY 1964 DXB - HEL in about 24 hours. When checking in on the Finnair app, check-in succeeds, but in the end I get the message "Tarkastuskorttisi on saatavilla, kun lennon tiedot päivitetään" (my own translation: Your boarding pass will be available once the information for the flight has been updated).
I tried checking in also on the website. There I don’t get the same message, but the only option for delivering the boarding pass is through SMS, and I didn't receive the message - and neither does the bosrding pass become available in the app. This is the first time I've come across something like this. |

This is because you are flying from DXB. I have never succeeded in obtaining a BP via OLCI ex-DXB. You just need to go to the counter and they will issue a BP there.
An update: now OLCI worked the usual way, i.e. I could finish the process without error messages, but in the end received the notification that online boarding passes are not valid for the flight.

Had a fun time with AY website today. I have U award tickets for May and I thought that I'll check if there would be an option to select seats in advance. My assumption was that with award tickets, you need to pay for seat selection. This is the flow that Finnair website provided:
For example on upcoming HEL-DFW flight the app offers upgrade to Premium Economy or waitlisting for Business upgrade. It’s nice when these things work…
Since few months, 80% of upgraded flights don‘t post automatically and I have to manually claim these. Very annoying.
Well, do you want upgrades to clear or do you want points to post? :D AY IT can't possibly be expected to handle both... ;)
AY mobile app at its best. I've managed to spend my remaining LH vouchers, although had to juggle a bit. I started out with 2 LH vouchers, and I have used two of them, but according to the Finnair app, I have now 3 LH vouchers on my account...
AY web shows correct amounts. Must be some proper database sync spaghetti between the AY web, AY app and the underlying systems. Interestingly, the last time I did airport upgrades with vouchers, I was required to prove that I possess the required vouchers by showing them on my AY app... :D |

Free hint for AY how to make IT very easy and handy for customer: example refund&cancellation how SK does it, go there and make a test booking and refund within 24h window. This is how easy it is:
1 there is an easily seen icon at booking confirmation email for ”cancel”, click 2 browser pops up and goes directly to a booking view with a clearly signposted link ”cancel and refund”, click 3 verification page opens, showing confirmation what u are about to cancel and get automatic refund, click 4 a new page opens, telling ”cancellation successful, refund initiated”. The end. How smooth. Easy. No extra clicking and searching or logging in or whatnot. Clear steps in clear views, even on a phone app, and couple of clicks, voila. |
AND it is as easy when cancelling later, based on fare rules.
Click "Cancel and refund" . System shows you the full booking, and you can select all or any passenger in the booking, and you can select to cancel outbound, return or both. AND - if you chose to cancel the entire booking (ie all pax and all segments) you will be presented with the correct refund amount, calculated from fare rules (ie any refund penalty is applied ) https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e421afbe32.png Not to mention what happens in the next step. If you are cancelling an entire booking (ie when you can see the refund amount on the site), the process is 100% automated. You will immediately be notified that ticket is cancelled and refund initiated, and very shortly after (minutes or seconds) you'll get this: Dear Traveler,Your requested refund is now handled and enclosed you will find the receipt. The amount is returned to the same form of payment used for purchase. Please allow up to five business days for the payment to reach your account. |
