You can cancel a flex ticket online. First cancel the reservation on manage my booking, then to get a refund you need to fill out the refund form.

Refund form

florens Sep 13, 2022 11:31 am

Cancelled a flex ticket.

Got an instant email claiming refund time is 4-5 weeks and that „We have started handling your refund request.“.

Few hours later got a second email.

Our average handling time for refunds is approximately 2-3 weeks, some requests may unfortunately take more time to be handled. We will send you a confirmation email after we have handled your request.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience that may cause you and are working hard to shorten the handling time.

Please send your request only once, as duplicates will further delay handling the applications..
So what is it now?

Well, time to try out the new refund status page. That might tell you it'll all be handled in a week, haha.

I got exactly those same robot messages last week, on Monday. Money credited back to my CC on Wednesday.

FWIW

Checking in today was interesting: on app the rows containing "economy comfort" seats were not selectable. This both on Android and iOS. On the web page they were selectable.

Is this a known "feature"?

florens Sep 14, 2022 11:52 am

Website/App don't offer the possibility to sort flights by price, time etc. anymore but rather it automatically suggests "best option".

I think this is brilliant, must be the best use of the most advanced AI available to humankind. I mean, I tried analyzing this decision with my human brain, trying to figure out which was the best option and couldn't figure it out. I came to a naive conclusion that the morning flight on a Monday on a widebody aircraft would be the best, but boy was I wrong. It's great that AY lets me know now only one, not only two, but three (!!) best options! Without this, I would've been a total sucker and booked the morning flight!

Goodness, they must be looking out for your pocketbook's best interests... 840 euro/dollars for that AM flight! Suppose it is not quite as crazy as some Flying Blue points redemptions I saw over the Summer SFO-AMS (600K for economy, 1.1 million for business) but it's still risible.

Insane.
And they even removed the manual sorting.

So they sort it by some random parameter and call it "best option"?

By your picture it looks like they decided short total flight time is the sort order. Flight time 3:15 is best, 3:10 is bester and 3:00 is the bestest.

As long as it is the „best option“ for themselves ;)

florens Sep 14, 2022 1:27 pm

They should invest IT resources in functionalities that travelers really need. Like changing a seat in the app or stuff like that. Insane that a company is wasting resources for such functionalities that make zero sense and that nobody needs.

U see ay has been on the differentiation road, adding features after features. Some are known, others unknown. What we know is that some customers wanted them for sure, none of them work and the bestest of them are cryptic errors too difficult for idiots to grasp

When booking an award, you are still allowed to sort the result by departure, flight time and so on.
That is only because awards are never the bestest options at all. Only revenue flights can be best.

I assume the award serach soon will have a new feature. The best options section will always be empty. If there is any U availability it will be hidden under a new category "Really poor options, please avoid" .

Was there an app update or were I just late to upgrade? Not a huge fan.

I recently gave some constructive feedback on AY upgrade search functionality and the near impossibility to find any availability and according to the CS feedback they are working still on un-enhancing the "enhanced" features to be able to search upgrade seats availability to flights that have not been yet booked.

rough translation of the feedback I received
"For your information, our website, which is still under renovation, will later have a tool for our Platinum Lumo and Platinum customers, which you can use to check the availability of upgrade seats when making your reservation"

Will have to see how many years the re-implementation will take.
