Motor City Yeoksam (Seoul) - half and half cheese and classic pepperoni Detroit style - the cheese comes with a side of maple honey - it basically tastes like very sweet maple syrup (maybe a translation error) - it actually was good for dipping the cheese side in - I wouldnt dare pour it on due to stickiness - yummy, but I sure did feel guilty eating the whole thing - luckily, they are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, according to Google

corky - I hope you dont think we are picking on you due to the pickles - if you like it, thats all that matters. Just like all of the comments I received on my mortadella preference. I dont think Ive ever had a pickle in my life. Maybe, Ill grow up and try onemaybe in 20 years or so.

You have never had a pickle on a burger or just by itself? How interesting. It is definitely a different taste..let us know if you try one.
lol--thanks for the support. I will continue to get what I want on my pizzas & ignore the other remarks. If you don't like something--just don't order it. I am not into uptight food rules (other than how people reheat their pizza) I think the thing with honey is the sweet & spicy combo like hot honey. I like the honey when I put pepperoncini on my pizza because it is a bit like that combo.
Detroit pizza is awesome---I grew up in Detroit so it is funny to me that it is now "a thing" around the world. I missed it---what could possibly be wrong with mortadella on a pizza? I wish I saw it on more menus.

If pickles are on something, I remove them. As for mortadella, I think the people thought I was obsessed (I was). My mother thinks its asinine that I eat baloney on a pizza. I havent found Detroit style in many non-US places - other than Seoul, Taipei, and Lucerne - but I like to try it when I see it pop up on my searches. I had been to Motor City before on previous trips to Seoul, so I knew I would like it.

I went to bed on New Years Eve at 3a after having driven my sons future wife home at 1:30a. Then awake at 7:30 because I thought she was returning at 8 so I spent New Years Day at home watching Family Law and folding laundry while cold sober because I assumed that Id drive her back home late night.

I finally exited the house at 8:20p to fetch carryout!

Dumpling Kitchen, noe valley, sf:

rice
mapo tofu
spicy fish with pickled cabbage

my wife had:
Shanghai noodles with green onion
sesame balls

I feel this way in general about blatant fusion food. Its a great idea and its just not for me. For pizza I like the classic American pizza without bbq chicken, yet yes I like pineapple with it. I love Korean food and dont want Kim chee on pizza - yet Im sure it would be great. I prefer tomato sauce or pesto sauce or a white pizza - I dont want my pizza to skip these classic choices and to instead have bbq or Russian or thousand island. I dont want lamb or black beans on pizza. Im so fussy. I dont want Chinese food served with mashed potatoes or polenta or tortilla chips.

If you were from St. Louis and thought that was awesome pizza, you would deserve to be made fun of!

In case that it wasn't obvious, my "suggestion" was tongue in cheek.

Dinner at Spices in North Kansas City. I am stuffed.

Started with a tom yum soup with chicken and shared fried spring rolls.

Entree was the Mongolian beef and a thai tea on the side.

corky are they sweet pickles or sour? Either way, I'm going to try this but suspect I may have to do it at home. None of my joints offer pickles.

I bet many have had pickled jalapeos or banana peppers. I imagine they would give some of that same sourness as a pickle.

After a long day mattress shopping yesterday, we tried to roll by one of our favorite sushi spots (Hatsuyuki) in Fort Worth. They were closed, so we went to Eddie Vs (their steak tartare and scallops are really good). We werent dressed so just sat at the bar and there were some characters. Made for a fun night. Tonight we made it back to Hatsuyuki - the food is really excellent.

I didnt take pictures of everything, but below is: salmon with truffle ponzu, ootoro, gindara, unagi w/foie gras, Hokkaido scallop. Had a couple toro hand rolls too.

Sour dill deli pickles. I do like to make pizza at home but wouldn't consider making this one for some reason. Fortunately there are a couple places not too far from me who not only have it but have it in single slices as well. One of the places doesn't automatically put pickles on the pastrami pizza--you have to ask for them. Lots of different recipes online. Pizza crust is basically bread dough so a pizza can be considered an open faced sandwich. They put all kinds of toppings on flatbreads--same thing.
This is from the menu at Mickey's deli:
Mustard, a Touch of Mayonnaise, Mozzarella Cheese, Pastrami, Pickles
