I'm holding off on purchasing tickets for now. The price for IAH-AMS; BRU-EWR-IAH on those dates is $887 all-in at the moment. If oil keeps dropping, and as winter low season approaches, I suspect there will be lower fares offered on the route by about October. If all else fails, I'll just use miles. No way I'm paying $900 for TATL in January.

Right now it's $1491 AI for two from EWR. I don't think it's an awful price, but it would be a tough sell on my wife especially after I sold her on the idea that it would be better to try and use miles for a upgrade instead of Y seats to Italy in Feb/Mar.

I booked my standard reward tix now since they are available and I can always cancel them for free while I'm still a platinum. If the fares come down to anywhere ~$400 or less I'll almost certainly change mine from a reward to a revenue and will consider it for +1 as well.

I have been debating the same. The fare from EWR is just over $700 (actually went up from yesterday!) which is (as you said) high for TATL in January. However, I am worried that if I wait I may miss out on the EWR-BRU mileage upgrade.

Decisions, Decisions...

That is very odd. Though, it looks like there will be plenty of seats open up front with only 3/16 booked so far.

This weekend is the big day - huh? :)

Yep tomorrow is the big day!

Seems like it has come really fast.

I called CO and they show our reservations as 2A and 2B. The seatmap shows 2F which makes me think something is wrong with the automated upgrade system.

That's not a bad idea. I might do the same with a BF/Y combo. If the fares do come down and I redeposit, there is the chance that they would release my reward seat and I could grab it for a mileage upgrade (wishful thinking!).

I just hate the thought of spending 75k of my precious miles! :D Especially when they will probably be needed for a (RTW?) honeymoon likely to take place in fall of 2009.

It might be worth moving your seats just to avoid the possibility of any confusion when you get to the airport.

Awesome! Enjoy the honeymoon in Belize. Should be fantastic.

If you are booking RTWs, I would suggest getting it done before the year's end. I wouldn't be surprised to see CO raise its RTW redemption levels to match *A (much higher). Also, if still booking with SkyTeam, you might be able to work in some nice Soviet aircraft on SU.

Congrats, as well!

Alright go ahead and start laughing at me... The person upgraded is my other half. I forgot that mileage upgrades showed up on the list. :D

I should have clarified that nothing is official at this point. I'd say I'm still in the very early stages of planning the engagement part. :) There won't be any RTW redemption taking place until the end of the year at the absolute earliest.

Hmmm - shouldn't you recognize her first initial and the first 3 letters of her last name before you marry her? :D

We'll let it slide this time as I am sure you have countless other things on your mind today!
