In June it was ABI and BTR, but that's debatable since it still has mainline service from more than one airline at the moment. In July it's DRT. In August I add CHA. And in September, LIT. And there's a slight chance I'll sneak SJT in there before CO shuts down that service at the beginning of October.

I may still try and work VCT and CLL into some non-work trips back to Texas later this year, just for the fun of it.

ssullivan, half the time, I have to look up the airports codes of the airports you talk about visiting.

Does the Terminal A PClub at EWR really have showers? (I'm doubting continental.com here) I'll need to use them on Monday morning and would like to not have to go over to C.

YYZ is OK, too, though not a ton to see or do there, IMO.

You don't thing there is enough to do in YYZ??? It is not one of the world's great historic cities, but it certainly is a young, cosmopolitan, vibrant city with plenty of great eateries, some museums, theater, and nightlife. Sure, it's not New York, but I could spend a week there just going out to eat at the many fine Asian restaurants.

Yes, there definitely is a shower there (I have used it).

Any drive involving Indiana is a long one. :)

I agree. There is only so much flatness that one can endure. Although, it is easy to drive on the faster side compared to many other states.

There are a few exceptions. I'd like to drive a decent amount of Route 66 some day, a drive across the upper midwest to Seattle seems like it would be nice and finally I still need to do the drive from South Florida to Key West (in a convertible of course).

Three hours on the I-95 corridor between NJ and DC feels like seven hours of "normal" highway driving.

Close to hell. The only saving grace is that the 16' moving van I was driving was pretty new. It is a 2008 model Ford with 6500 miles on the odometer. It even had a CD player. So, I didn't have to deal w/ mechanical problems. Otherwise, that drive blows. Gotta do it again in a few weeks. Except that I will be driving my own car that I am comfortable in.

The only nice parts of the drive are the vistas along parts of I-66 and I-81 in Virginia and the cool winding drive on I-24 in CHA. At least the way I went.

Just one shower? Was there a wait when you used it? I'm guessing it is not the most actively used shower as all of the flights arriving into A are now CoEx.

Hated the traffic in and around Delaware, Baltimore, DC, Birmingham, and Lake Charles, LA. Yes, there was bad traffic there, since they like to work on the roadway during rush hour in Lake Charles. Going to try and empty the moving truck tomorrow in this heat. Yuck. My only "incident" was running over and killing a turtle (saw that creature go to bits in my rear view mirror). :( On I-59, poor little thing was attempting to cross it. If I didn't kill it, someone else would have. I tried to avoid it, but the moving truck has all the "moves" as a sloth (the driver has better reflexes :p) would.

You should have taken the I-70 over to I-81 and bipassed most of Baltimore and all of DC - it is slightly longer distance-wise, but worth being able to bypass both of those miserable traffic areas.

Very good point. Between the (usually) nasty traffic and the repetitive "views" it is awfully painful.

So I am thinking that instead of doing the early morning flight out of LBB for cheap (after a night time football game), I would go to one of the other cities within an hour's driving distance.

It's a tossup between MAF and AMA. Thoughts?

I believe there is only one shower room. I used it once on a Tuesday around 3:30 pm after having arrived from an international flight when DCA flights still used the A terminal (didn't feel like going back into C when my connecting flight to DCA was in A) - there was no wait at all. It is, as you say, not the most actively used shower in the system. What time is your flight?

It really is a "scenic" drive. If Amtrak were not available, it would be even worse.

I will be arriving at 7:30am on Monday morning, so it will likely be a little busier than a Tuesday afternoon. Hopefully there won't be too much of a wait.

I'm the same way. My partner couldn't believe I split my Houston-Atlanta driving into two days, and spent the night halfway, when I moved here at the end of May. But there was no way I could spend 12+ hours driving all in one day.

To me that's different. Road trips where we're not just driving straight through to get someplace as quickly as possible I don't like. But leisurely trips where we stop along the way to see things, and spend the night in hotels (I refuse to do all night drives) are OK with me. We've talked about taking a couple weeks off from work one year to drive across the country, staying off interstates as much as possible, and seeing as much as we can. I could go for that. Of course I'll push for doing it in a rental car, and at the end of the trip, a one-way flight back home.
