Dunno if he has NW miles...but there's always the KL All-Biz 737 from AMS-IAH. I think it departs after 4:00pm AMS time. He might be able to squeeze in a UK-AMS connection and make it. Only bookable with NW or AF/KL miles, so far as I know.

I think that there has been considerable conversation around here that upgrades on VS metal using OnePass miles do not exist. :(

I have already picked out a white linen suit, fedora, and driving gloves. I hope it's not too late after I get off work (5:00pm) to make it to Denny's for the early-bird special ;)

LOL :D My family and I just returned from FLA where we spent a week on the beach at Captiva.

One day we got into our rental Pontiac Torrent when my 7 year-old son noticed a Mercury Grand Marquis parked next to us. Now, mind you my son has lived all his life in Brooklyn where the Grand Marquis has a very specific application.

He turned to me quizzically and asked:

"Hey Pop, do they have car services in Florida, too?" :)

Yeah, I know - I was responding to the suggestion to book VS J. I can't book VS unless it's a CO codeshare, since VS isn't a US-based carrier. Pooey!!

Book the CO/VS codeshare in coach (sadly, Premium Economy can't be booked via the codeshare). Then, pray there's Premium Economy availability the day of the flight. It's not uncommon to be able to "buy-up" to PE on VS. That's about the best advice I can offer. He may have to pay a few $100 out of pocket (who knows, perhaps it could be "Expensed"), but that's the only somewhat workable solution I can think of.

I don't think it matters - you can earn CO miles even if you purchase the ticket directly from VS with the VS flight number on your ticket/boarding pass. You don't have to have a CO flight number to have the miles credited to CO - it just has to be a flight that VS codeshares with CO (i.e., any flight from the US-LHR or vice versa, plus a few to LGW and MAN). I would say go for PE and hope for a buy-up to UC at the ticket counter (unlikely if on the JFK route).

I wish a Skyteam carrier offered a premium economy product. I need to make a few trips to Indonesia/Southeast Asia during the next year and it would be nice to have that option. Thai might see some of my business in their PE on the JFK-BKK flight - 42" pitch and 20" width with a footrest is not bad for $1400 all-in round trip. Then again, one sometimes can find discounted KE J fares for around $2500.

Air France does, it's just not widely-known about since it's limited to the 777-300 fleet that services the French Overseas Territories from Paris-Orly Airport. It's known as Alizé class. From this side of the pond, it can be booked from Fort de France, Martinique and Pointe ŕ Pitre, Guadeloupe to ORY.

Ah, yes - Alize; I wish AF offered it fleet-wide.

I think they offer it out of mercy on those flights, as Y is 30 inch pitch, 10-abreast on those 77W's, and most of those flights average 8-10hours, with ORY-Reunion Island (the longest) clocking in at 5,800 miles (or roughly the same distance as LAX-ICN).

I would not be caught dead in Y- on one of those sardine cans (I think they pack in 450 or so pax)

Regular AF coach is decent, however - 32" pitch and 18" width, with adequate "padding" compared to CO. I probably will use them for my next coach trip to Europe - after my last CO international coach trip several months ago, I think I would rather fly nonstop in AF coach from IAD than have to connect to CO coach in EWR from DCA. It is even better if one can snag an AF 332 (or 343, but those are quite old) if flying coach due to the 2-4-2 seating configuration.

I am pleased to bring you today's installment from the "Thank God we don't fly US Airways" files...

LOL!

Laugh as you will, but after a year of getting almost no upgrades as a CO Platinum, I moved over to LGA and US and DL. DL is hit and miss (mostly hit) for a Gold, but I have at least a 95% UG rate on US as a Plat or Chairman. IMO, a front cabin seat on US beats the hell out of the best coach seat on CO and they all have their share of those stinking RJs.

Doesn't AF offer this class of service to SXM (St. Maarten) as well?
