My father-in-law was an entertainment journalist in the UK in the 60's and 70's, and got invited to sit in on one of Monty Python's writing sessions... he wrote a really good story about it for the Sun. The sketch he was there for the creation of is this one.

Too bad he's gone doo-lally now and can't remember anything about it. :(

One of my favorites was the "Ministry of Silly Walks" sketch. Classic.

based on sorting, I think this is the oldest, but I'm not sure... it is from Jun 1, 98, 8:03 am... can "electronic vs paper upgrades" be bumped back in a relevant manner is the question :p

If you follow the thread numbering logic, I would assume this is the oldest overall on file... May 5, 98, 9:27 am...

A question for fellow Houston residents:

Is it time to start building an Ark yet?

Today is my company's "summer party." It can be pleasant and sunny for weeks, but whatever day they choose is the day the heavens will open.

At least I get to go home early

Not in this city...not lately. Oh well, given the choice between high humidity, no rain, and 105+ heat index, I guess I'll take high humidity, mild to moderate flooding on a daily basis, and 85-degree high-temps

Dunno, but it's more commonly referred to as climate change. By no means am I saying our weather is proof of climate change, as making sweeping generalizations from a few months of anecdotal evidence would be silly. However, tropical weather patterns are generally typified by a dry season (generally "winter"), and a rainy season (generally "summer").

The hottest areas of the planet are not typically found near the equator, but generally between 20-35 degrees either side of it in subtropical or temperate zones (Sahara, Namib, Gobi, U.S. Southwest, Atacama, Arabian Peninsula, etc.).

If global warming does herald widespread climate change, it would be interesting to see how far (if at all) certain archetypal weather patterns (such as the tropical dry/rainy seasons) would shift.

[/baseless speculation]

Oh dear. I do work in science... I'm not a boob. :(

Nothing serious in the Penalty Box, please. ;)
