I can beat that. I'll be booking ATL-DRT sometime this week for the last week of July. I think that will make me the first Box poster to get that exclusive city added to his FlightMemory map.

I find it kind of funny that Del Rio's airport code reads "dirt."

Let's see who the first FT'er is who has this on their FlightMemory.

My money is on ALCO.

About time - you've been griping about that for months :D. I got lucky and snagged one on ATL-DTW nearly a year ago. Just finished adding the A346 to my list this weekend - fantastic aircraft. The tail-cam view of the plane flying over the Namib Desert was sweet.

gbryan84!

Did you experience the long takeoff roll ?

When I read this I sort of visualized the takeoff roll last week on the shortest scheduled commercial flight in the world that Loganair runs WRY-PPW (two islands in the Orkneys). It is on a Britten-Norman Islander and when the wind is correct (as it was for our flight), it is one minute and eleven seconds from wheels up to wheels down. Quite a takeoff roll, that one. ;)

After I took the flight, I realized that I had also taken the longest scheduled commercial flight, Singapore's EWR-SIN at 18.5 hours give or take.

I wonder if there is anyone else who has done both of them?

Question for The Box: can people in relationships go into consulting?

I'm on the road every week, but when I'm home I try and make it count; it's hard but you can make it work. Also, my husband travels some and I try and make my travel meet up with his - even if it's for a night whenever I can. It puts a nice spark into the relationship.

I got a ride on the Goodyear Blimp when I was a kid, when we had one stationed in Houston. The new ones look pretty sweet, though. I wouldn't hesitate to grab a flight on a Zeppelin fitted out like an airborne cruise ship.

Has anyone in The Box been to PTY recently? Any opinions on the city overall? Any suggestions on things to see/avoid? Is it a city worth visiting for 3 days (assuming cheap airfare :D)?

Also, any hotel recommendations? I looked into the Marriott but the rate rises quite a bit on the final night I was planning there... It's not out of the question, but I'm just looking for some other suggestions.

I flew in the Goodyear blimp years ago (based out of Pompano Beach, FL) while working. Does that count?

Thank you for the B-Day wishes. Im about to buy myself a ticket to PTY. Anyone have any weekends they will be there?

PTY can be done in 3 days but you can also do it in 2 full days so mabye a side trip somewhere on one of the days. Marriott is THE nicest hotel in town and I would definitely stay there; it is worth the cost. I recommend walking or taking a cab everywhere instead of renting a car. The roads are not in the best condition and the drivers are a little crazy. Other than that I love PTY, it’s a great city and safe in the tourist areas.

Time for a Move

I just reserved a 16' truck from Penske and will be making the move to Houston beginning Saturday. I wish I could get miles by driving down there in the behemoth, towing my car. Am I going to pass by anyone in the Box? I am leaving PHL and headed down I-95 to the beltway around DC (I-495) to I-66 west to I-81 south. From there, I-40 west in Knoxville to I-75 south... eventually going through Birmingham, AL and Hattieburg, MS. Then taking I-12/I-10 into HOU. Almost 24 hours straight through (1,563 miles by driving - why can't airlines give us this mileage instead?;) )

Am I the only one who hates packing for a move? Oh wait, ssulivan hates packing too.:p

You tell me... I've been looking for a decent excuse to head down there. I know that MLK day '09 was nixed as a Box mini-DO, but something earlier might work. :D

Damn, here I thought my ride in the Goodyear blimp would be a trump card in the box.

Moving is one of my least favorite things to do. I once moved four times in one year. I stopped unpacking. What part of this fair city are you moving to? What a dreadful drive!
