I was figuring that the bidder was just ignorant and didn't know what the retail value actually was. Seeing that the price is actually stated in the listing makes it even more unbelievable. Plus, there ~10 different people who have bid 30K+ miles. That's just insane.

My computer randomly died this afternoon and when rebooted told me that it had overheated. I call our support guys and they can't send someone out until Tuesday. :td:

The computer is running but who knows for how long.

Pour beer on it.

Vacuum out the grunge in the heat sink - a good chance that will fix the overtemp.

If anyone tries this PM me with a link to the pictures and the overall outcome.

Maybe we can convince the guy bidding 93k for the HDD that it will only work soaked in beer.

Now, to collect the life-insurance (keg deposit) and trade-up to a bustier, friskier model. May I suggest North Coast Old Stock.

'Til I got the keg I had forgotten just how good a beer that is.

I'm in the east and, worse (from a beer point of view), in PA. West coast stuff is not to prevalent.

I routinely find laptops stuffed in our office freezer. Apparently this is some sort of IT folklore that you can recover lost data if you freeze the drive.

I'm not joking about this.

Might be worth a try. Can't be any worse than pouring beer on it.

That generally applies to dead hard drives, the ones that don't like to spin up. I didn't believe it, until I saw it work. It must be due to a thermal issue in the bearings and motor.

Beer is the answer to everything. It's better than 42.

Yeah just be sure you've got someone to drag your drunk self home after a night of drinking that. And that you don't have anything you have to do, like work, the next morning.

Just imagine if we'd had a keg of it. :D
