Negative. Everything within 609 does not require a 609. I'm guessing it's because we don't have an overlapping code (yet) this far south.

Interesting - I always thought that was all of NJ. I just automatically do 10 digit dialing no matter where I am now.

NYC is a strange beast. The following area codes are local in the 5 boroughs: 212, 718, 917, 646, 347.

10 digit dialing is already required in the area unless you are dialing within your prefix. It's not that way down in your area?

We've been 10-digit dialing for years. It is easier. Just forget that there is such a thing as area codes and move on. With number portability things are moving in that direction anyways.

There was a period a couple years aggo where ATT Wireless was giving out 212 numbers. That was fun. I let mine expire (work number) and didn't port it out because I didn't have anywhere to port it to and I didn't really care all that much. I don't mind that my new number is in Duluth. It doesn't affect anything since just about everyone has nation-wide rates on cell phones.

If you are on a 609 line, no need that I know of. I live in the southernmost tip of Ocean County and I once had to call the State Police HQ re: a firearm question. The Firearms Investigation Unit is in Trenton and is a 292 number, IIRC. No area code.

I forget when our area of NJ started, but it was many many years ago. I agree, it is easier.

This is also the reason why I didn't mind taking an out of state area code for Google Voice.

My eFax number is 928 (somewhere in AZ, I believe) which gets annoying because local people assume that I mistyped it and they try and send things to 908.

Texas has so many area codes, I have been involved in 3 area code swaps :( confusing as all get out!

If it's true, the FAs were certainly at fault.

Definitely!

I was referring to the 50 cent name-drop op-up at the gate. :-:

Anyone notice 3,000 miles in their OP account for "Starwood Spring Triple Play"? It just showed up today but the date on it is 5/1/2009.
