I just have to put in a plug for the incredible job that Starwood did converting a 1970s era Radisson into the Sheraton Four Points Memorial City. Granted you have to deal with the construction mess at Beltway 8 and the Katy Freeway at your front door, but my suite on the 15th floor is gorgeous. And at the price I'm paying, it's a pretty sweet deal.

And the low-mileage, new car smelling Cadillac DTS that National at IAH gave me for $39/day ain't bad either!

I stayed there shortly after it opened, and was given a great corner poolside suite. If you ask, they will send a mini-fridge by your room for free (great for stocking up on Belgian beers from the nearby Specs - Dairy Ashford & Memorial, IIRC)

And thanks to Hartmann, the Significant Otter and I will be trying the Eskimo Hut this evening for Drive-Through daiquiris. ^ :D

That's the sanitized, licensed version. Prior to the 90's, you'd see a lot of illegal carts at various crowded locations around Hong Kong, especially near movie theater entrances. And often, the government's "hawker management" team would suddenly appear in marked and unmarked vans. The vendors would have to "jau gwai" (literal translation: run ghost), pushing the carts with the boiling oil and propane tanks through the crowded areas to escape.

If caught, they'd get a snap on their wrist, paid a small fine; and they'd be back in business in a few hours or next day. But finally, people were getting seriously injured by the "running ghosts" with their boiling oil and soup, and the government really cracked down on them starting in the mid-80's. I don't think you can find those unlicensed hot food carts anymore in Hong Kong.

But I had certainly consumed plenty of curry fishballs from those carts.

Not bad, except for that orange and black thing at center ice. :p

Ooooh, thems fighting words. :D

Though, I agree... far more of a Devils fan then the Flyers myself.

I, um, well...how to put this mildly...I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE the Flyers. I can't stand Pittsburgh either, but I cheered for them in Conference Finals. The enemy of the enemy is the friend.

I wore a Devils jersey to a Phillies game about two years ago. Yeah, I'm that guy. It's an experience I would happily repeat, because the Phlyers phans made absolute jerks of themselves...I just smiled and waved back. But when I waved, here's the key: I used all five fingers.

Yup. And Lou hasn't found a way to fight that problem yet. No coaching staff has been able to climb that mountain. I told my mother "new route lines" because she wants to do TPA solely because of Barry Melrose. She thinks he's HAWT.

Barry Mullet Melrose. Does he still have the mullet?

I was a bit leery of going to a seafood place in the middle of a desert, but, yes, it was very good.

Crawfish etouffee and a few Fat Tires. :D

So how were they?

I'd try it but I'm not willing to drive all the way out to the 'burbs to get one. It's bad enough I'm sleeping outside the 610 loop tonight. Do you realize how many years it's been that I've done that when I've been in Houston? I'm within a few feet of being outside the beltway! The horror! :p

What, the damn Lukoil ads?????

LOL, jealousy does not fit you well.

I got to skate on the ice of the Big Boys. Not many can claim that.

Seriously though, when you are in the stands it is so awe inspiring. It is sooooo big, so pristine looking. Get down on it though and it is a different story. The benches were cruddy and full of trash. They did sit higher than other benches though. The ice was as rutted as most other sheets I've been on, along the boards was as grubby as anywhere else. I was really suprised. Oh, and once out there it was no different size-wise as others.
