As far as the CO in CLT situation is concerned, is there liable to have some effect on CO as a *A member if it competes heavily with US in CLT? It is unusual for alliance co-members to poach on another's fortress hub and is it not beyond the realm of possibility that CO may retreat a bit there after the alliance switch?

I am very comfortable with JFK, especially for international flights and there was, within the last hour, a Perrier Jouet sighting in the Crown Room. :p

Unless something as changed, the RJs from CVG to CLT are all E-145s without any FC cabin, so not much help there.:D You raise an interesting question as to the move. I doubt it as UA uses mainline to ORD and when we could support (the now discontinued) n/s to DEN was mainline too.

Again, I mean no disrespect to DL, it does many things quite well. JFK, is not too bad either for international connections I certainly admit, but it does not thrill me for domestic connections. Again, just trying to weigh my options!;)

Thanks!

Washington, D.C. Advice???

Paging CO1E!

What hotels would the B:rolleyes:X recommend for a one night stay in the capitol? I need to stay one night on July 11th for the Billy Joel/Elton John concert. The concert venue is on S Capitol St SE down by the Navy Yard Metro Station.

I have narrowed down my selection to these three contenders. I am a SPG plat, so I will be booking the cheapest possible room and hoping for an upgrade to a suite or something better than what I booked.

Sheraton Crystal City for $92.78

The Westin Arlington Gatewayfor $122.10

The Westin Washington, D.C. City Center for $123.61

Also, is it woth paying Amtrak $199 to get down there in 3.25 hours VS B:rolleyes:ltBus $81 for 4.25 hours?

It's all your fault that I ended up posting over there because you made a post here saying you posted over there and that made me look over there.

I have stayed at the two Virginia properties at least a half dozen times each. The Sheraton CC is good for an early flight the next morning and if there is a reason to want to walk around Crystal City. It certainly is serviceable but is not in the class of the Westin Gateway. That is a top-of-the line Westin with a lovely concierge lounge and all of the best Westin features. And there is a mostly brand new neighborhood to walk around with some decent chain restaurants and a killer wine bar cum restaurant right there. I do not know about the restaurant at the CC but that at the Westin is abominable.

If you have a car, it is easier to park for free on the weekend near the Sheraton but on weekdays, you will almost be compelled to pay the Westin's parking lot rate. If you don't, they are both about equidistant from a Metro stop.

I know nothing about the DC property. I hope this will help and if you do elect Virginia, you are certainly welcome to contact me for more info.

I stay at the Hampton Inn by Chinatown/Convention Center just about every time I'm in DC these days. It is 2 blocks from the Metro station there and the property has always done right by me at a reasonable price.

And with the exception of the part where you'd have to come in to Manhattan to start the BoltBus trip rather than Newark Penn I cannot see why spending the extra $120 would be worthwhile, especially with free wifi on the bus. The train is more comfortable but I'm not sure it is that much better for the short trip. And IME the bus will stop half way so you can stretch your legs.

His posts are always entertaining to read. My personal favorite was the thread he started about why they screen "everyone" and citing a bunch of child suicide bombers as evidence. He received quite a few relies wondering when they would actually start screening everyone rather than just most passengers. That was fun to read.

It does help, Alot. Thanks.

No car for us. We have elected to either take the train or teh B:rolleyes:ltBus down from NYC. Most likely the bus because the train is soo damn expensive. I don't think I can justify spending more than double the price to get there about an hour earlier.

I figured the Westin Gateway would be a good choice since it's one of the newer SPG properties there.

I like the idea of saving 1.5 hours or so and the hassle of getting into NYC, but I am just do not think I want to spend the extra cash for that. It just seems silly to me.

A few days ago when I was checking prices for Amtrak I found a promo code online and the train fare came to $34 a person from Newark Penn.. Since I have never taken Amtrak, I did not know if that was a good price for them. I now realize I should have jumped on that as soon as I found it, but I was at work and very busy at the moment and well, got side tracked by . Of course I can't find or figure out what promo code I used to get that price anymore.

A weekend RT on the DCA shuttle is <$200 and is more convenient if you are going to stay in Virginia.

Happy Father's Day.

My husband has decided that he wants to go out to dinner. Not sure if he wants to save me the effort of cooking or he isn't too crazy about my cooking skills.....but I'm happy. :D

I am sick of the TSA check points. Shoes on or shoes off....each one is different for an airline employee. I like having a security check point but the lack of rules applied across the board and the length/time it takes to be screened is dumb.

Either we get really serious about it or we relax some of the dumber rules, such as having our shoes taken off. I read a very good book, connecting all of the dots leading up to 9-11, and one of the items being tested was using a watch as a device. If we have one dumb rule of removing our shoes, we might as well add another and be required to remove our watches for extra screening. I'm tired of this area being a political football.

Don't you think if it is the latter that you would have had quite a bit of an inkling about it before now?
