Good afternoon, Box. Was absent yesterday as I was felled with a monster migraine  Thank god for husbands who suffer badly from migraines .... and why might you ask? Because I can steal his triptan medication :D:D Miracle drugs, that's all I can say. Kick those migraines into submission with one fell swoop. Yee ha! Pity I waited all day to take one. (I feel guilty stealing them from him because our rotten prescription plan only allows him 12 a month).
(Yes, we try to bring that back from the UK whenever we get a trip over, it *works*) |

What happened to dropping by Boots and picking up several packages of Migraleve? ;)
(Yes, we try to bring that back from the UK whenever we get a trip over, it *works*) Don't you just lvoe Boots The Chemist!!! I always pick up some Zovirax (for cold sores - Rx only in US, but can buy OTC in UK) and this fantastic range of footcare (creams, sprays, etc.) that smells good enough to eat. Migraleve is great for low level migraines. It's really just the same stuff as Excedrin Migraine. But, when I get a killer migraine, the only thing that gets rid of it is the triptan (Maxalt or Imitrex or Axert or Relpax - all triptans), and sometimes I even have to throw in a few ibuprofen or acetominopen along with it. My husband suffers from cluster headaches (worse than migraines) and he uses the triptans, plus every day he takes Migralief, which is a herbal supplement recommended by his neurologist. He has been taking it for about a year now, and along with diet changes, his headaches have certainly become less disabling. He still gets them, but not as frequently. there were times when he litereally had a raging headache for a week at a time, with no respite. Really horrid. |

I think there is still a Long's Drug in Monterey, CA. Perhaps a weekend drive down the coast is in order.

I'm a bit p'd off today. I took my Honda Odyssey in for a routine service, and ended up spending $1000+++.
I needed my front "struts" fixing and my wobble arm or waver arm or something or other, I can't remember the name of it, needed fixing too. Plus then the wheels needed realigning and I needed a 75k service. Mind you, initially, the service guy told me it was going to be $1400, but I said "hang on while I make some calls". I called several local dealerships to compare prices. Managed to get my dealer to undercut the rest, and walked out paying $1066.00 instead of $1400. Would much rather have spent that money on an MR!!

I will have to get a copy of the agreement. This whole messy matter is the fault of my sister refusing to do the right thing in continueing to pay the condo fees with my father's money. She had her own agenda and was angry that I was on the condo deed (due to loaning my father money) so she played hard and fast with his cash before I became the wiser.
My father and I had no written agreement of how the dues were to be split. It was understood by us that although I loaned him some money for the purchases of his condo, the condo was his completely. He paid all the fees prior to his getting ill. I was only on the deed to protect my loan from my sister and I still got the short end of the stick.

I don't know if my sister ever really had a legal power of attorney. I believe you can do just about anything in FL with a semi official looking piece of paper. One of my biggest mistakes was not monitoring her spending of his money because I was also on that bank account. I made a major error in trusting her to do the right thing but learned otherwise when it was too late.
My mother is still alive and she and my father never divorced so it is a complicated family matter. My mother is aware of what happened but of course she doesn't want to be in the middle of all of this condo mess. FL states that she is now my partner and she has told me that it's basically mine to do as I want with it. This whole thing has given me nothing but a super headache from day one. As far as my relationship with my sister, she destroyed that about a year ago.

If your sister doesn't want to deal with the property, draw up a deed that transfers your father's interest to you get dad, mom, and sis to sign it, and record the transfer. Then you could either sell the property or continue to rent it out. There are quite possibly some serious tax issues there, that I honestly know nothing about. You would need to see a tax attorney about that.

Good advice on consulting a tax atty (or accountant) -- but wouldn't she just get a step-up in basis on her portion, as of date of death of her father? Doesn't sound like there would be any cap gains involved, just deductions for things associated with the rental. If her mother 'gifts' her portion to her -- that is another matter. |
