In my boredom here at the PC, and out of slight jealousy of my partner's new laptop, I'm pricing out computers online to replace my home PC which has a motherboard that's slowly dying. I need other entertainment before I spend too much money.

I'm turning into a box denzien and buying an acer for travel only. That now puts three laptops in the house and once BL JR is proficient enough, we can stop having conversations and just post in the box ;)

Got to love it when a passenger goes crazy due to flight delays. Uh huh. Yeah. Somebody at CO HQ on Smith Street really hates this particular guy and is willing to delay over a hundred other people just to make him mad. You know what, dude, sh!t happens. Travel often enough and you'll have eventually have a day where the weather is cr@p and you're not going anywhere anytime soon. Mature people just deal with it. They don't go off on an innocent agent claiming her employer is doing this just to make you mad.

I wonder how much grief he's going to give the FA's?

Meant to ask - what are you looking at?

Wow - 4 1/2" of rain at HOU (IAH close to 3")

Duct tape?

Probably way too much. Tell them how important he is to CO and how could they do this to him?

Looking at some Dell desktops right now. My work computer is a laptop, but what I really need is something at home that stays home to use to host all our media files, as well as run things like home financial software and photo editing software that I don't keep on my work computer. We've also discussed replacing that computer with something that will also double as a media server, and then connecting it all up to our home entertainment system.

I can see it now. We finally get on the plane and this jerk goes off on a FA and we get further delayed while they deal with him. Hopefully he'll either stay as calm as he appears to be right now, or he'll fly off on the PC agent again and she'll have security escort him off the premises and deny him boarding.

Why a laptop for those needs? Buy a cheap desktop with 4GB RAM and a big HD and call it a day.

The weight and space you'll be saving is *amazing*.^

I think you misread what I wrote (or maybe I wasn't clear). I'm not buying a laptop. I will buy a desktop PC to replace the one I have now that's dying.

I have a laptop for work which is what I travel with.

Very high on the list of stuff that will get bought upon resumption of positive cash flow is a new machine of some kind. I'm starting to think that a new desktop with a nice huge screen is the way to go, and then I should get a netbook for when I don't want iTunes or Photoshop. I'm also thinking that AppleTV might be worthwhile because I could at that point stop buying DVD seasons and migrate over to downloaded TV.

According to the weather radar, Brenham and Navasota are now out of the rain, and it's moving east fast enough that IAH should be clearing up within an hour or so. Hopefully I'll make it out of here at 6:30 PM after all.
