I will never admit this out loud but I cheered when I was notified that my son has 2 hours of detention tomorrow (today). 2 more hours of sleep for me.

Good morning box.

Morning, all. Now if only there was a sunrise to watch instead of this craptacular rain.

KNRG May 5, 2009 4:33 am

There's been a surprising lack of rain in Florida lately. I think it's a drying trend - first we were under the ocean, then we were sand shoals, then islands, then a peninsula that was essentially a giant brine water swamp, then only partly brine water swamp, then mostly just swamp, then we built Disney World, and now we're getting sort of dry.

If this keeps up eventually we might have a mountain or an arid dessert or something.

I just finished reading a book about the private-public relationship between Disney and Orange/Osceola counties. You really wouldn't know by being in the park that the land used to be all swamp. Married to the Mouse, Richard Foglesong...not the book to read if you like your idea of Disney to be sugar and spice.

Good morning box. +1 about what CM said about the rain.

I miss projects on that scale and can't bring myself to get excited over Dubai. I wish Disney or someone would work on that scale in the states.

The only thing that is even close to being on that scale is CityCenter, and it's nearly done. Rumors continue to be heard about a CityCenter East in Atlantic City, which will be about one-third the size of the one in Vegas.

Albeit with my limited knowledge of the topic, I'd be willing to hazard a guess that large-scale construction of the Disney sort might be done for in this country. Land is too expensive, local-level governments are too , and the populace seems to have no care whatsoever for a greater good that would be realized if they were inconvenienced somehow.

Disney pushed the Reedy Creek Improvement District down Florida's throat in 1967. The only way they got that done was because they picked an undeveloped area. Nowadays, what isn't developed is either too expensive or somehow legislatively protected.

Sometimes none of those methods are effective and the $10.50 lives thru to your credit card bill. :td:

As noted the 75 mile thing is annoying, but it does cut back on my previous habit of driving from MCO to downtown and back and never putting fuel in the car.

I looked at the 10-day forecast on weather.com...out of those ten days, Sunday and Monday are the ONLY ones projected without consistent rain. This is depressing.

The B&H catalog came in the mail. How dare they tease me like that.

34 seats in WBC on my AMS flight Thursday - 13 of which are booked. I know I'm not getting an OpUp, so here's to hoping that those around me are, or that a row of layflat coach gets opened up.
