Would WN award the dog GRR's instead of RR's?

All this talk about National got me thinking about how I generally have been disappointed with them recently. It seems that over the last eight or nine months, the quality of cars they provide is decreasing, while the rates have stayed the same or increased. The last few times I have booked premiums, I have ended up with Toyota Avalons with more than 25k miles on them. The best premium I have received (when actually booking a premium) has been a new Maxima with 2k miles on it. The Malibus and other similar cars I have pulled off the Executive Selection have been newer. What happened to all those new Volvo S60's and Buick Lucernes they had last year? They seem to have disappeared. I was using Alamo for awhile on the weekends to take advantage of their $10/day (and, later, $18/day for premium) special rates, and many of the cars I got from Alamo were actually better than those from National, like newer Avalons and brand new Ford Tauruses, and cost half as much per day.

At certain locations, when you arrive in the evening, there is nothing but crap in the ES aisle, like old Impalas, busted-out Camrys and even Carollas, and Mazda CX-7 (or 5, or whatever than "mini-mini-van" thing is).

SEA still seems to be a good National station, however. Last week, I pulled a brand new Lincoln Towncar with 2100 miles on it from the Executive Selection. The other cars available included plenty of new Malibus and Impalas, a few new minivans, Buick Lacrosses, and several 4 Runners. I also pulled a new GMC Acadia from there a couple of months ago. SEA was mediocre a couple of years ago, but seems to have gone up in quality since then.

Tell me about it. I've had some really crappy cars from them lately. Last night was just the latest. I have had a couple of Volvo S-60s lately, although I'm liking that car less and less. It feels so dated, and the ride in it really isn't that good; it's not much better on a bad road than the Cobalt I'm driving right now. That's fine for a $16,000 car, but for a $30,000+ "luxury" car like the S-60, it's inexcusable. And I just find all the controls in the S-60 so 1999.

Some of the nicest National cars I've had lately have been brand new Sonatas. They have good sound systems, satellite radio, and a pretty good ride. They're nothing fancy but overall very good cars, and a very big improvement over the previous generation of the Sonata.

I'm also pretty happy with the Malibu, especially if I can find one with a lot of options. It's not perfect, but it's certainly better than a lot of the other options in the fleet. Heck I've even gotten to where I think the Camry is a pretty nice rental, and the ones they have of those are usually pretty stripped down.

I wandered over to the UA forum. There is a 1K complaining about not being cleared off the stand by list, so that he could get to LAX during a weather delay. He is upset that UA processed 4 international connecting customers to SYD before him and how unfair that was because of his status.
He wants to know how much compensation he should ask for. :td:

I liked your response ^. Though if a 1K can ask for the "heavens" what would a GS ask for? :p

I'm only there from 1030 - 1130.

I'm connecting to an Express flight, so I'll have enough time to grab some Shipleys since I'll be in B anyway . ^

Well, it is silly for sure, but I can also see some validity. In that particular case, the improper handling of standbys did cause him to miss his flight and from the sounds of it, a forced overnight in SFO.

If I was him, i wouldn't have been too pleased as UA likely didn't even put up for a hotel for him. It's one thing to have a situation like that and just get the person to their destination a few hours later, but if there's an overnight involved, that isn't fair.

One of the perks of status is that you assume you will be at the top of the list.

But, the flip side is UA made things good for four people and made it bad for one, unfortunately that person was a 1k.

Personally, i think UA did the right thing, but i do think it sucks. They really should have VDB'ed someone if they wanted to prioritize the 4 passengers over the 1k.

Besides, they should have just kept the four on their flight to SFO... How often does the SFO-SYD flight actually run on time. :D

You're welcome. Don't forget to get creative with the chocolate - strawberries, pretzels, maybe an apple...Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is your friend.

I've come to realize how the atitude in the UA forum was born.

There have just been way too many :rolleyes::rolleyes: posts in the CO forum lately.
