Now the NewDL just needs to get all of its 737's and get off the fence on the 787. One group of people that I have no envy for are the group that had to do fleet integration for DL.

Could you imagine the debacle that would present if/when UA merges with, well, anyone? Covering the most of the sales sheet for commercial aircraft for both Boeing and Airbus cannot possibly be the easiest approach from an overall cost standpoint, given MX, air crew staffing, and so forth.

ETA: Ok so I retract some of that. I thought they had more widebody Airbus equipment.

The big assumption you make is that they care. I sometimes wonder. They seem to have developed that mentality that they are so big it doesn't matter. Perhaps they have been taking lessons from AF. :D

By the time UA merges with someone, who knows if they will even have a mainline operation. They continue to replace more and more mainline with regional. LGA/EWR-ORD are now part-regional. It's only a matter of time until everything is regional at the rate they are going.

I am actually concerned for UA, I want to see them succeed, but their leadership doesn't seem to give a crap about them. They will soon be like Midwest at the rate they are going, and that isn't good for competition.

Sad to see DelNorTalia Aeroline leave the Star Luftwaffe... :( I guess weasels are better than stars.

Hmmm. Should I go work in Vancouver, BC for a year? I'm sort of being pestered by one place (part of Provincal Gov't) as they are desperate for people at the moment. Work permits not an issue for me as NAFTA has exceptions for people like me. Upside, they are fitness freaks so I know I don't have to find time to work out and stuff like that (may be a requirement to live out there) I may actually watch some Olympics in person. Down side, well it's not around here (family issues), it's still Canada land of the , what do I do with my house for a year? What do I do for a car out there since I can't "import" mine into Canada? Oh decisions, decisions.

I would love to see UA survive, there are a lot of good people there and the airline has so much potential.

As you said, the problem is management and their simple goal of killing UA and pocketing money.

I clearly need to keep up on my AM.

So, when one leaves an alliance, what happens to all the partners that had flights out of the the departing-partners hub?

I would go for it. YVR is an amazing city and it would definitely be an experience.

What fun. My partner just informed me that he has applied for two jobs in Detroit.
