if they flew from IAH and headed west over the US until SAN , it would only add about 400 miles , so yes this would work with a nice light landing :D

JFK-SYD and ATL-SYD. This is a joke, right? JFK is about an hour longer than EWR-SIN. Deltalina and a stripper pole couldn't make me get on a flight that long.

What's the alt? Stopping in LA for SFO for a 3 hour layover? I'd prefer the nonstop.

Having done the 16.5 hour JFK - BKK world's second longest flight, it's really not so bad (up front).

begging the question, would it help if I got out and pushed?

Is EWR-HKG weight restricted? Not that wikipedia is the most accurate source, but those numbers seem to imply that it should be....(again all of this is, if I am reading it right).

They seriously want to do it, It may from ATL though.
I have done the EWR-SIN route a few times and it is not that bad at all .

Work permits not an issue for me as NAFTA has exceptions for people like me. Upside, they are fitness freaks so I know I don't have to find time to work out and stuff like that (may be a requirement to live out there) I may actually watch some Olympics in person. Down side, well it's not around here (family issues), it's still Canada land of the , what do I do with my house for a year? What do I do for a car out there since I can't "import" mine into Canada? Oh decisions, decisions.

Vancouver, BC is beautiful & might be a fun place to work for a year, esp. w/the Olympics excitement. Don't know about the car issue. Could you rent out your house while you're gone?

If a few people jump into the pacific on the approach to SYD, that would help :D

Don't worry. It's been discussed. Neither of us has any great attachment to Atlanta and there's never been any question that his career advancement will most definitely come with a relocation.

And yet, you still won't escape DL.

They used to have one for NY to London where you swim, this one is more realistic.

Also a while back DL asked Boeing to stretch the range of the LR to make US East Coast to SYD work, they really want to fly nonstop to SYD from the East Coast.

I imagine DL wants to run a ATL-SYD flight as they like to take everyone through ATL. "What, you're going from SLC to SYD? You'll need to go through ATL".

I sometimes really wonder what would happen to DL if a true disaster struck ATL. I think the airline would fail in epic proportions.

HAHAHAH, so true.

As far as I know, no. They do have special LD containers which are super light to do HKG/DEL/BOM for weight purposes. So they try to save weight wherever they can.

I once had a CO pilot tell me that they could do EWR-SIN in the existing 772s. I still don't believe it.

What a surprise, from the ATL? :)

rolov I initiated the transfer this morning, looks like i'm going to do a SQ reward on LAX-SIN and likely a BD reward to get from SIN to KUL. If I added the SIN-KUL leg onto the SQ reward it went from 60k to 90k.

ETA: Screw that, i can pay $63 and fly Jetstar from SIN to KUL. :D

I'm quite jealous that i may never get that line on my FM. So, you did that flight once and the second time you couldn't?

Renting is a possibility of course but in this economy who knows. I'm sure I can get my next door neighbor to manage it since he owns retail property that he rents out in North Jersey. The thought of tossing everything in storage is  and certainly not cheap.
