Tell me about it. I've had some really crappy cars from them lately. Last night was just the latest. I have had a couple of Volvo S-60s lately, although I'm liking that car less and less. It feels so dated, and the ride in it really isn't that good; it's not much better on a bad road than the Cobalt I'm driving right now. That's fine for a $16,000 car, but for a $30,000+ "luxury" car like the S-60, it's inexcusable. And I just find all the controls in the S-60 so 1999.
Some of the nicest National cars I've had lately have been brand new Sonatas. They have good sound systems, satellite radio, and a pretty good ride. They're nothing fancy but overall very good cars, and a very big improvement over the previous generation of the Sonata. I'm also pretty happy with the Malibu, especially if I can find one with a lot of options. It's not perfect, but it's certainly better than a lot of the other options in the fleet. Heck I've even gotten to where I think the Camry is a pretty nice rental, and the ones they have of those are usually pretty stripped down. I also agree about the S60's - the seats are some of the most comfortable car seats on the market, but the suspension is horrible and the car handles like a box. Unacceptable for a car in that price range, but still far better than an Avalon with 30k miles on it. I have switched some of my business to Hertz and Alamo this year and (especially at Hertz) have received nicer cars than what National has to offer. Still don't know whether I will even requalify for Executive Elite this year. |

Thanks. I'm not doing anything lounge-wise. I'm gonna lay off the booze and instead take NyQuil gelcaps. That'll knock me out just as good as NW or DL's booze. And the Hilton already has my early arrival noted. The plan has since been amended to: land, get to the hotel, shower and change, breakfast, and go right back to Schiphol station for a train.

If you are going into central Amsterdam after your flight, I would recommend taking the bus instead of the train, unless you want to start your day in the Centraal Station area. The bus costs 4,80 Eur, picks you up near the terminal, will drop you off near the Leidseplein (where the museums and Vondelpark are) after a 30-minute ride.

And unless you want to get attitude in the morning, bring small euro notes. Also, the ticket dispensers (at least for rail) do take credit cards but they want to have a smart-chip in the card in order to work.

Personally, i think UA did the right thing, but i do think it sucks. They really should have VDB'ed someone if they wanted to prioritize the 4 passengers over the 1k. Besides, they should have just kept the four on their flight to SFO... How often does the SFO-SYD flight actually run on time. :D As to the SFO-SYD flight, that thing is always on time when CO is running late with connecting customers! |

Is there some written rule that 1Ks trump every other passenger (except for GS) no matter what?

Frankly, I don't even read most of the threads in the CO forum other than the Box. Each day, I scroll down the first page <snip>
The Box is the CO Forum now. ETA: I will never pass up the chance to help out a newbie if I can donate something to the thread that hasn't been said. |
