But entering that RCC is a grave risk to your health. It is the dirtiest and most crowded airline lounge I have ever seen. IMO you are better off in the common areas with the general population.

It was a bottle I picked up in Uruguay last year... Maderos de San Juan Pinot Noir. Even better than the Pinots I tried in New Zealand, IMO. Don't see myself getting back down to Uruguay any time soon, unfortunately. :(

Uruguayan wines rock. One of the best whites I have had in years was an Albarino from Bouza, a winery just near Montevideo. One of the best reds was one of their Tannats. Just like ALCO, I brought those bottles back with me and there is nobody that sells them in the States. I absolutely will make a side trip over there the next time that I get to BsAs.

I think the ironic footnote in this is that I don't even begin to know a lick of Italian but will be living there for a week and am not really concerned about learning it.

For the price of rosetta stone I could fly MCO-EWR-HNL-EWR-MCO and jump a status tier in less then 48 hours.

Take the trip (if that is really an option). You're never going to pick up Parisian French without being in Paris.

Overall I was really impressed with the service, and hope CO will roll out something equally good, but at a much cheaper price, at least for elites and first class passengers.

I doubt this will happen. My understanding is that the gogo service is being deployed similar to the CO/LiveTV arrangement. The provider (Aircell) is covering the costs with the expectation of keeping the cash generated. That makes it hard for the airline to give it away or discount it, though CO did come up with a plan to do so for the LiveTV up front or on flights with a delay of a certain amount (I do not know the threshold, but the first revenue flight hit it).

I agree that the performance is pretty good. But there is no way II'll pay the cash every time. I just don't need that level of connectivity and there are better things I can spend the money on.

God as my witness, those balloons came out of the X-Ray machine smaller than they went in.

I had forgotten about this. That was rather entertaining.

Finally wrapped up my work here in BDA and I've got tomorrow until 2pm to putz around on the island and see some sights. Hopefully I'll find some interesting things.

Finally made it to Fort Wayne, IN. Once again the car rental company gives me the run around, and I end up with a base model Cobalt as my "full-size" rental. I'm getting really tired of the smaller National locations not having the ability to match the number of cars they have to the number of reservations, and making sure they have the right cars for the reservations. I dread getting stuck with a base model Impala as a rental, but I'd take that POS in a heartbeat over the Cobalt. And to make it worse, I have a two hour drive in this thing tomorrow morning to my client, and a two hour drive back here Thursday night. It's not like I can just run back over to the airport tomorrow afternoon and trade cars. I'll be over 100 miles away.

You know what? GM and Chrysler need to hurry up and self destruct so their crap cars will stop ending up in rental fleets in large numbers. I'm tired of having to drive them.

When I was last there, it was only being exported to the UK and the vintner was hoping to connect with a suitable importer to the States. However, in the past year or so there has started to be a trickle of the stuff into the US.

Have you thought about just hiring a driver? You have the worst luck with rental car centers.

Canceled and rebooked my paid F trip ONT - AUS for apartment hunting. More is more, and 500 miles is 500 miles. :D

I wish I could. Unfortunately that doesn't work too well in most places I go, or with the clients I deal with.

I'm usually fine with rentals in larger airports. But in these smaller airports, you never know what you're going to get. I used to not have much trouble, but over the last year it's been really bad. Apparently the small town places are incapable of knowing how many cars they have, how many reservations they have, and matching the two together to make sure they've got what they need. I've never worked in a car rental office, but, it doesn't seem like it's that hard to cut off reservations when you've reserved all that you have available in a particular car class.

Tonight I'm too tired to care all that much. I'm sure tomorrow morning when I'm driving the two hours from Fort Wayne to Archbold, OH, I'll be cussing that little car the entire way.

Renting a car has now become the most unpredictable element of any business trip. All of the companies overbook so heavily that any IRROPS throw them completely and they cannot catch up for a full day and sometimes two.

In addition, the cars are getting older and older and it is no longer unusual to get one with more than 30,000 on the clock. After driving some of them out of the lot you can develop a severe distrust of their capabilities but most of the time the company will have nothing else to offer you.
