Damn -- CLE is dead. Maybe I've never gone out on a Saturday afternoon before, but I can't ever remember a time where I have been the only person in the check in line, the only person going through security and the only person at the bar in the P-club.

At least the drinks are comin' fast :)

It looked to me that someone put that butt on the "out" tray with still plenty left to munch on.

So we just finished up eating the oven brisket and I have to say, it wasn't bad. ^

Yeah, it's lacking the smoked/burned outer crust and the smokey taste, but it was juicy and flavorful.

I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I have never had a real Texas BBQ. I've been to Texas several times and I've had many other kinds of foods, but never a true Texas BBQ.

The pictures and all of the talk is making me really think that that needs to change. :D

So I have a giving directions question.

When giving directions between two places, where the end point is not well defined and there are cross-streets between the places, is it proper to say something like "parking lot is on left before destination" or are you better off giving a cross street before the destination that will seen?

I know; Completely random for the Box.

Oh, and sdm1130, next time you're in Texas, we'll meet up and give you a BBQ tour. There are a few places that we have yet to try but have heard really good things.

Does the person you're giving directions to navigate by landmarks or by street names? If you know that then the answer should be easy. I'd probably say something like "Just after you pass main street the lot is on the left, before you pass the restaurant" and cover both bases. It isn't that much extra info to have to put in the directions. And you can always add the slightly useful bit of extra info like "if you pass the restaurant you've gone too far."

Well, the directions are for a group of people. The street that they are going down pretty much dead-ends and they are numbered cross streets (15th, 14th, 13th, etc.)

I was thinking, "Parking will be on the left after 12th street and before restaurant".

Thanks - I think we will definitely take you guys up on that next time we are in the area! We're still kind of interested in checking out the Houston and Austin areas so I could see a trip taking place some time in the future.

Coming from a professional at giving people directions to restaurants I guess we have to listen to you. ;)

I'm workng hard at being a professional slacker tonight...working the late shift and doing not much more than posting on FT and peoplewatching. Well, OK...watching just certain parts on certain people. It's definitely a "they're real and they're spectacular" night.

I may have found an opportunity to get a one-way ticket out of the cold (well, in the winter) Northeast!

I have been talking to a large company in the PBI area and they have asked me to come down for a day full of interviews next week (still waiting to see if the fly me down on CO or a different carrier :D)! This opportunity would be much welcomed as I have been interested in moving to South Florida for a few years now! Anyway, if all goes well, I could be moving at the end of the month, purchasing my first home and probably moving towards that whole "m" word thing!

ConciergeMike May 31, 2008 6:36 pm

Congrats on the opportunity, sir. +1 for the "m" word bit. My proposal is still in the oven, but it's happening this year. Maybe your or my engagement will trigger another wave of Box engagements.

Well if you happen to find yourself here, stay clear of the chain Pappas BBQ. In Houston, the Pappas chain is well known for Pappasitos, Pappadueax, etc, which are excellent restaurants. Some time ago, they bought a local chain of BBQ places called Luther's. Now, growing up in Houston, I can remember Luther's BBQ as an institution. Decent, predictable stuff. Just my personal opinion, but since Pappas took over, it stinks. I don't know a good place to recommend, but I thought I'd offer you the warning. Clyde Drexler's (ex-Houston Rocket) family owns a place South of downtown which is supposed to be good. Houston is so big, there are probably dozens of "hole in the wall" places that are excellent. Mexican food is the same way here.
