Sorry to double post but I just set myself up nicely for a little rant.

I went to one of our neighborhood deli's for lunch and they had pulled pork as a special. So I ordered it "Carolina Style".

I swear they looked at me like I had 19 heads when I explained that, yes, in fact, I wanted the Cole Slaw on the pulled pork. And yes, it sucked. I don't know why I bothered.

Sometimes I forget I'm in NY.

Reason number 1 billion why I will not live in NY.

FWIW, there are plenty of places you can get it Carolia style and it can be pretty good. Of course, those are real restaurants, not delis. Ordering anything in a deli that involves something other than order by number is almost certainly going to get you in trouble.

But altho it is frequently quite good, it still does not taste quite as good sitting in a restaurant in NY as it does in a shack in Carolina or Kentucky. Hmmmmm. You guys got me thinking about getting a delivery from Brother Jimmy right now.

Well, when I want the experience to go with it I will use my back deck as the setting. That makes everything better. The slow cooking of a good pulled pork isn't on the menu tonight - the much simpler beer can chicken is - but mostly in the interest of wanting to have drinks earlier and still cook dinner tonight.

My grandmother has a similar MO to yours, S: 2:30 cocktails with munchies until about 4:30, where it's a two-drink minimum. :D

Grandma is in the respect of food, however, a stereotypical older Floridian, and dinner tends to go out between 5:30 and 6. That's the downside. But the 2:30 drinks thing is pretty cool.

Hmmm.....Beer menu for the next Box DO.

"Drinks earlier" worked out well! 2 afternoon margaritas, early dinner, and I'm calling it a night. Some nights it's a marathons, other times it's a sprint. ;)

All this talk of BBQ makes me want to fire up the 8 ft. Pits n' Spits Smoker Pit and smoke some pork tenderloins. Too bad I'm in MSY for the weekend. Wonder if they have any decent food in this town. :D

I've turned into a BBQ fiend. I'll do 2 8lb butts, 250 F, 10+ hrs. Glub almighty that is a feed. The neighborhood swears I should commercialize my beans - delish.

Here is one from times past (doesn't everyone archive food pics?):

I'm about to put a beer marinated brisket in the oven. I don't have a grill/smoker so this is the only option. We'll see how it comes out.

TG from JFK (pointy end of course) transiting BKK then hoppin' down to SIN. Spending 2 nights in SIN (I bamboozled the US agent who was helping me into not counting that as a layover) where I'll kick it with a friend / ex-coworker who is now a food critic in SIN (reasons #782.c why working for a global company isn't all that bad).

Taken the SQ night flight over to MLE (again, up front), 5 days there, then back to SIN. Quick flight up to REP, 2 days there, back to SIN. One more night in SIN then down to Malaysia. ~ 1 week there. I'm seeing if I can include a few nights in Borneo, but I think, logistically, that might be a bit much. I'm not ALCO. ;). Back to SIN and then back to JFK via BKK (long enough layover to get a Thai massage in the Royal Orchid club. :D

All said, the only outlay in cash beyond food and alcohol is fixin to be the hotel in the Maldives and the SilkAir flights (which aren't much). I'm thinkin'

....

ahh crap... I'm getting paged out. Gotta run.
