I have been talking to a large company in the PBI area and they have asked me to come down for a day full of interviews next week (still waiting to see if the fly me down on CO or a different carrier :D)! This opportunity would be much welcomed as I have been interested in moving to South Florida for a few years now! Anyway, if all goes well, I could be moving at the end of the month, purchasing my first home and probably moving towards that whole "m" word thing!

Congratulations man! Hope the interview goes well! :D ^

Houston is a hard place to find good BBQ. There is a place off of Wilcrest and 59 that's pretty good and another one near the Galleria called Luling City Market.

For really good BBQ check out this month's Texas Monthly: http://www.texasmonthly.com/magazine/bbq

The top 5 are on the left.

Thanks Hartmann! The position would be a great fit and a really nice promotion for me as well. And, of course, the FTer in me is happy because this now means that I will make 2 trips to PBI in one week. :D

I'll trust your judgment on Texas BBQ locations. The more authentic, the better!

Swinging Door BBQ in Richmond is supposed to be great (I don't eat meat so not a big help here) and people drives miles for it.

If you can swing the two and a half hour trip north on 59, the Bodacious BBQ branch in Lufkin is excellent. I don't remember if there is one in Livingston or not.

I grew up down the road from the Swinging Door, when 359 was a deserted road. We ate there at least a few times a month and I always enjoyed it. I went back a few months ago and was not super impressed but they have their good dishes (chicken fried steak = ^).

I am not expert on BBQ, but Goode Company (one on Kirby, just south of US59; another on I-10 Katy Freeway) is one of the more famous and popular BBQ restaurants in H-town.

There is. It's at the first exit for 59 Business as you head north from Houston into Livingston.

In Houston Luther's used to be great, before Pappa's ruined it. The Pappas family does a lot of things quite well, but barbecue isn't one of them. Some of it is OK, but I generally find it way too greasy.

Goode Company on Kirby is a good bet, as is Luling City Market on Richmond. I second the suggestion of checking out Texas Monthly's restaurant reviews. They are generally up-to-date, quite reliable, and good at telling you places off the beaten path. Their reviews are an excellent resource for all of the major cities in Texas, as well as a lot of the small towns.

There is a place near EFD called (or was called) Pe-Tees cajun BBQ, it is damn good.

That portion shown was just a piece that fell off the butt as I was pulling it.

Just watched a BBQ show on Food and have all kinds of new ideas, I can't wait to try the next one.

Back from nowhereville, New Hampshire. Glad to be home, not glad to be going back to work. It was nice not having internet access.

Good to know - I'll take my dad there for the chicken fried steak next time he's in town.

Correction.

I talked with my mom who went there last night, they do not serve chicken fried steak anymore :(

I hadn't noticed on the menu since I got the three meat platter. Apparently they stopped serving the "down home" cooking a few years ago. That was my favorite dish :(:(

So, I wouldn't take your dad there for that, he'd be sadly disappointed.

It's the third circle of hell in my house...just ungodly hot. It's keeping me awake.

IF your looking for Chicken Fried Steak try Hickory Hollow near the race track or Ma Goodsons in Tomball.
