Unfortunately I never got a chance to fly the 747s or 300s before they left the fleet, but have been on everything else since that time (except the 739ER).

It was great to get upgraded into the old WBC seat on NW D10's on routes like DTW-SEA. They also had some D10's configured with domestic F seats.

I had my first, and hopefully only, 747 and MD-11 flights last year on KLM. It was in Y, so take that for what it's worth, but I wasn't pleased with either of them. The pitch on the 747 felt more like 29" than the 31" seat guru says. Ugh, that was a horribly long flight.

The last DC10 that I flew was on that route but it was clear that the airplane was near the end. It was domestic F configured, very beat-up feeling, and at least two of the overheads were closed with bright red tape Xs. It still was a great feeling to ride the DC10.

I was upgraded on a NW DC-10 with old WBC seats back in 2002 on a flight from DTW-EWR. After being stranded at DTW all day (due to weather) that 1 hr flight to EWR felt wonderful!

The big item on my list right now is getting a ride upstairs on a 747.

I'll be doing that (again) next week and the week after.

When CO joins the *A, you will be able to use your miles for FC on an LH 747 and sit upstairs. Just make sure that you schedule at least a 4 hour layover in FRA so that you can get full enjoyment out of the FCT.

It's not at all clear that this is true. With CO in Skyteam you certainly can't use CO miles for F tix on carriers with F seats.

I really should just bite the bullet and buy J on NW or KE. I know that if I wait too long I will end up being sorry.

I have this booked already for January using BD miles but Im getting word from the LH experts that the 747 upstairs is not as good as F on the A340 .

You can pick up a 321 on AF.

There is a trip I would like to do that's a land/cruise combo. Starts in BUD, ends in CPH. Connecting in CDG would be the way to go outbound, and I'm thinking I could get my 321 there. I would also like to get a 330 and 340 ride. If it were reasonably feasible, I could get a 76X coming home from CPH by going DL thru ATL.

true, we shall see what happens. but right now (I belive)you can use US miles to get F on LH, so I imagine you will be able to with CO.

Yes. You can. And it's actually one of the easiest seats to score.

CM, a hearty "ha" to your Q-tip joke. Reminds me of the funniest* maladies I've encountered as an EMT. A patient called 911 because they had a Q-tip firmly lodged in their ear.

It was actually a moderately serious call but the random factor was pretty high.

How'd you get the beans above the frank

*the whole perception of funny is rather skewed amongst emergency response workers. Talk about dark humor, yikes. :o

Belynch with post 12000.

How about Turkish Airlines, a *A carrier starting service to SDA/BGW?? CO miles for trips to Iraq.

Try the daily humor among those who work with explosives. How do you think I ended up like this? There are really no humor boundaries when you work with stuff that can kill you.

Example: I used to wear the below t-shirt.

"If you see me running, try to keep up because something has gone desperately wrong, or someone has tapped a fresh keg."

We also had a logo that included the phrase "bone chips and pink mist", because if we did the job right that was the result.

A common saying among our crews was "Hey, if you f**k up, at least you and your friends won't feel it."

Some of the stuff we worked on could go off on as small a charge as the static in your body...that's all it takes to start the rocket motor on an AIM-9, for you trivia freaks out there. And a secondary fun fact about the Sidewinder: were it to be set off in a confined space, the missile crew that did it and killed themselves would not die from the flame of the rocket motor, but rather from asphyxiation, since the burn would suck all of the breathable air out of the room, to include any living in your lungs at the time of motor's start.
