Unfortunately I never got a chance to fly the 747s or 300s before they left the fleet, but have been on everything else since that time (except the 739ER).

I remember riding the DC10 on runs from MSP-MCO. Ahhh, those were the days. Too bad the plane was falling apart.

I'm actually staying at the Hard Rock on that rip as well. Looks like we're doing the W for 2 nights, Sheraton La Jolla for 2 nights then the Canuck leaves and I'm at the Hard Rock for work (not. my. choice.) for 3 nights. It's not a mattress run, it's a "well let's stay downtown for a couple nights and then let's stay out by the beach and relax for a couple nights." ;)

The Sheraton is a recently converted Radisson. Last time I was there, the insides hadn't been touched so you may just want to double check. Also, depending on time of day, getting from said hotel to the beach can be a royal pita. Traffic going down to LJ from the top of the hill just seems to get worse and worse.

The big item on my list right now is getting a ride upstairs on a 747.

I finally popped that cherry a few months ago on a UA SFO-LHR flight. It was quite an experience and i recommend it to anyone, even given the fact it was UA.

Yup. Stress breeds crazy coping mechanisms. Some turn to substances others turn to displacement of their emotions. Others laugh at people's misfortunes. And some of us write books.

I could tell stories all day but I'd probably offend (lose the respect of) most people that read this. Not that I have the respect of anyone on here... ;)

Good to know, thank you. @:-)

I see that some folks aren't being to kind to the property on TripAdvisor. How is the Sheraton in Carlsbad?

I did that last year on my UA AKL mistake fare. I loved it, despite the broken seats and crabby UA FAs.

There's a Sheraton in Carlsbad? I think that may be a conversion as well. I can't think of any SPG properties that are convenient to the beach.

4 points Sheraton Studio City (MC:rolleyes:) - how horrible? It looks scary, but its in my [points account] best interest to load up on SPG right now.

Only for one night. And it's the only SPG property that I can even consider based on where I need to be.

Stupid work getting in the way of acquiring points for vacation.

According to the interwebs: http://www.sheratoncarlsbad.com/

ETA: Oct. is shaping up to be a dizzying month. Sometime around Oct. 20th I'm going to wake up on a flight and have that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. I have no idea where I am or where I'm going.

I had a dead power port and flaky headphone jack. The FA just made a comment about how they don't bother fixing them anymore since they are replacing all the seats. At least I got a skykit out of the deal. ^

Hmmm, from where it is on a map, i'm inclined to say it's a new property. Plus that whole area is pretty nice, though the people can be a bit dense at times. A bit of a trek from downtown though, especially with traffic.

Will I Get the Upgrade?

Still not upgraded on tomorrow's IAH-CLE flight. But there's hope — I'm number two on the upgrade list, and there's still three seats in play. Hopefully there are no Platinums with a higher fare class that haven't checked in yet, and nobody buys a last minute first class or Y-up fare.

On a related note, my EWR-ATL flight on Monday was upgraded yesterday. It's on a 735 and the fare class is L. Second time that's happened this year on that route on a Monday morning.

At the time I was too inexperienced with UA to know about skykits. I should have complained about the broken foot rest on my SYD-LAX flight, but the two upper deck flight attendants were so nasty that I was scared to say anything. And I found a pretty simple solution to keeping it from falling down by just putting my backpack under it.

Does C:rolleyes: have anything equivalent to a skykit? I had a malfunctioning seat in BF a few months ago and the FA promised me a concierge would meet me upon arrival in FRA.

Well, we all know how well that works.

I hung around for a few minutes then said forget it, and left the airport. I never bothered following-up with it, but it still kind of cheeses me.

In other news, a coworker just bought a bunch of velvet paintings at a tag sale during lunch and we're going to hang them up in random offices and meeting tonight after everyone leaves. This should be fun.

REVUP coming back from HNL was a great idea. Doing the SDC to the HNL-EWR routing was even better. Only being charged $325 (FAQ says it is $350 for an elite to IAH/EWR) and not being charged the $50 for the SDC were just icing on the cake.

And I am home and able to get some work done today instead of wandering through Philly.

belynch Sep 25, 2008 11:51 am

Holy crazy pricing.

I was all set to come on here and rant about C:rolleyes:'s pricing of a nonrefundable economy ticket to FRA (from EWR) at 2k for the last week in Oct.

And then I checked LH and DL and, much to my surprise, C:rolleyes: is the cheapest. By several hundred dollars (1500 in the case of LH).

Oh, lookiehere. SQ is $600 on the nonstop JFK-FRA. Not sure if the times will work, but for that price...

Yes; I've gotten their versions for mechanical delays for both domestic and int'l and compensation varies. Last month; Int'l delay of 3 or 4 hours (I'm not rememebering exact amount) - received meal voucher (again, don't remember exact amount - perhaps $40) and then the BF Concierge came on with a $300 voucher before takeoff. The domestic ones are a comment card; drink coupon and $$ off voucher depending on ticket value.
