Even better than half-day Fridays are no-work Fridays. I'm still sitting on my couch having done nothing all day...

Although I am very jealous cause its full day friday for me , I can't complain.
This is the first friday in almost 2 months that I have actually been in the office.

I know it probably won't come to pass but here's hoping to cheaper fares! ^ ^

From the article:
The carrier already is seeing a "slight uptick" in travelers, said Mark Erwin, its president and chief executive.

He expects that to accelerate quickly, with an increase of about 12,000 more people than normal during the next year. The carrier now flies about 1.5 million people annually.
Since when is a <1% increase in traffic considered quick acceleration??

I didn't realize that they're going to put in a second runway...that is pretty cool. ^

Speaking of cheaper fares, I doubt we'll find those $500 fares to HKG and southern China next spring. UA just axed its LAX-HKG, and is not starting SFO-CAN. NW is pulling out of CAN totally. CX is cutting some flights to Canada and is considering cutting to US as well.

Anyways, funny that the Chronicle article didn't say anything about the new 4th GUM-NRT flight.

True. That's only 32 more passengers a day. But they're already adding a roundtrip to NRT. That's 300 extra seats a day.

I need to make it out to the GUM hub, on the island hopper of course.

^ I know I've mentioned it in here before, but I really would like to do this as well! Reading through various trip reports and looking at pictures, it looks like a very unique experience!

I have been looking at some dates in August and an EWR-IAH-HNL-[island hopper]-GUM-NRT-IAH-EWR with a night in HNL, a night in GUM and a few nights in NRT can be had for around $1600. Not too bad at all...

Anyone know what the upgrades are like on the island hopper and flights between GUM and NRT? Are there usually chances for a companion upgrade? Also, I am guessing a seat needs to be available for the entire length of the island hopper in order to get an upgrade? Does that mean they sometimes go out with empties up front and elites in the back?

I still have yet to do the island hopper, so one of these days, I must.

As for upgrades, on the GUM-NRT flights, if you're on one of the 764s, they should be plenty. When I flew it back in Dec, half the BF cabin was empty and i had an entire row to myself. On the other hand, the 738 on the way back was full.

I'm definitely interested, but August probably won't work for me because of work. :(

I was wondering about the upgrades on the hopper as well.
