I hate to temporarily steer away from the geeky topics (because I am a true geek at heart!), but I'm curious to know if anyone is planning on heading to LAS in mid-July to check out the new PClub. I've never been to LAS, so I am thinking this may be a good excuse to go to Vegas for a weekend and check out the new club while I'm there.

Interesting reading over in the NW and DL forums regarding CO announcing their planned alliance switch. A lot of the NW flyers are dismayed at the eventual loss of upgrades on CO, and both seem to be pretty down about the loss of CO's lounges and access to reward tickets on CO.

Of course over at UA not everyone is throwing out the welcome mat.

What - they don't want us in the RCC buying drinks? ;)

As well they should be. Farewell, leeches. :p

Well some of us have been leeches at NW from time to time. When the option is MSP-IAH on Thursday night on a Chautauqua CRJ or a NW A-319 with dinner, guess which one wins? Let's just say it's the one with the lav where you don't have to be a dwarf to fit inside and close the door.

I have to go there on biz mid July so I am tailoring around the club opening - shh - don't tell my customer!!! Honestly, it may be the only thing I like about LAS - certainly the only thing I like about the airport; though I've grown fond of the bartender at Wolfgang pucks' and the free wireless there.

Well, it's perfectly acceptable to use *their* inferior F product. I was simply casting aspersions on the NW flyers with the audacity to poach CO's premium cabins. You see, it's what I like to call a "double standard." :D

Here I was trying to burn miles on US. Now I can use those US miles on CO! Yay!^

As most have stated, this alliance switching probably won't come about for at least a year. At that time, who knows what the status of US will be in the *A? I have lots of Div Miles and will try to burn them in the next few months because I am bearish on US. I doubt that there ever will come a time when Dividend Miles will get us award tickets on CO.

Mother Nature weighs in with her opinion

Obviously Mother Nature is no fan of today's announcement:

Nice! Unfortunately, I'll have to go on my own dime. :( I was thinking of going on the weekend of July 11, but there has been no definite word on the exact day of the PClub opening.

I'm not big on gambling or partying, so I'm not so sure I'll be a huge fan of Vegas. I'll probably check out the new PClub, see some of the hotels, stay for a night (thinking of the Venetian at this point), drive to see the Hoover Dam and then head home.

New reading material

Last night after dinner we enjoyed the pleasant temps and low humidity Atlanta was experiencing to take a walk around Midtown. We stopped in one of the local bookstores, and on an endcap near the front door was a book called Naked Airport, and it featured a stunning black and white photo of the interior of the TWA Terminal at JFK, totally devoid of passengers, airline employees, luggage, electric carts, and all the other stuff airports are full of. So of course I had to pick it up and see what it was about. Turns out it's a history of the evolution of airport architecture, from the very early days of commercial aviation, until today. It includes lots of historic photos of long-gone terminals, inside and out, including a one of the old terminal at HOU where the museum is now housed. I just started reading it tonight (in between helping the BF make bacon and egg ice cream for a dinner party on Saturday — yes, bacon and egg ice cream...) but so far it's quite fascinating. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for some new reading material that's aviation related.

I hadn't seen that it will take at least a year. Oh well, I'll try and burn 'em sooner rather than later. Though, it would be nice being based out of IAH (later this summer), to use US miles on CO flights originating out of IAH. Oh well, I'll keep dreaming.
