I enjoyed the Acela.

I've taken it a few times and find it absolutely maddening. It's about 5x as long as the DL shuttle (door to door), assuming it's on time. It's also very bumpy.

I can verify that it's not the content but the host. Pandy Reterson has failed us.

the Acela reminded me a lot of European train travel, at a slower speed for most of the trip.

The Acela is a cousin of the TGV. The motors and transformers in the power cars are TGV.

Euro rail travel is so much nicer, faster and smoother than in the US. We just have wider seats because we have much wider rail cars.

The bumpier it is, the better I sleep. I love turbulence too!

That's really not very long.

Nope. Like I said, with the light meal and Internet access it went by very fast.

Yes, you should keep it on the list. I can't imagine that being a bad trip at all.

I was thinking that myself...I'm thinking that a day in BRU, a day or two in CDG, and then a pre day in LON would be quite the magnificent opener to the Cunard crossing back to NYC.

Totally false.

I'd do it again. I went MIA to DC, DC to CHI, CHI into TX.

It looks like a MR route to get to texas :D

I also rather liked the coffee station they had setup in the sleeper car, some very good green mountain vermont blend coffee anytime we wanted, an if it wasn't fresh they'd have more in a few minutes.
If you do a sleeper car they also have a juice and water station setup for anytime access, I'd not bring botled water since they have it already, but I'd instead bring drink mixins.

Well it depends. Certain long-haul Amtrak routes get more goodies for the sleeping car passengers than others. In 2006, when I did my trip, service cuts were in full force on less profitable routes, including the Sunset Limited that I was on. We had the "juice," which tasted like Tang, and some ice, and some awful coffee set out for us. There were two very small bottles of water in the room when you boarded, which were never replenished. Had I not brought my own I would have been buying it in the snack bar on a regular basis.

That's part of Amtrak's problem on the long-haul stuff. Even if you have the time to kill on the journey, the service is highly unpredictable, and varies greatly by route.

The confetti was a bit cold when it rained down on me. The Cristal is very nice though ;)
