I have a secondary social science license still (from Maryland) - in Tennessee, they require individuals to certify in each social science (e.g. one's a history teacher or an economics teacher). Crap. I forgot to deduct the 501 (c)3 stuff that wasn't reinbursed. I think it was a small amout last year since I had a better reinbursement formula.

My Associate's and Bachelor's was very heavy on history - at the time, I was thinking that I would get a terminal degree and be a historian. Then the history faculty at the college I was attending at the time proved to me that they had no conception of the real world whatsoever (mental clarity achieved after a deployment to Saudi Arabia) and I decided on either Communications or Hospitality. I reasoned at the time that running a hotel was a statistically safer goal than becoming the next Mike Lupica. We see where that reasoning led me. I ended up not finshing the Hospitality coursework due to job conflicts and using Thomas Edison to create a degree fashioned from three other schools' course loads.

In NJ, the certifcation is titled "Social Studies Contenet Knowledge", and the exam covers world history, US history, economics, psychology, and anthropolgy. I've looked at the list of available certifications and found about five more that I would be interested in getting. The next big thing is passing the first exam with a score 10% over the minimum, and then finding a (ideally, anyway) high school that wants me.

Mine's well over a grand for one board - they only cover my hotel and food (not travel across the country).

Absolutely - and FT will be used in the classroom.

They are the hardest to get certification for but science and math will pretty much allow you to go anywhere. Another blossoming area is Technology Education (not to be confused with education technology, this is part of STEM) and of coures NJ DOE is trying to mess that up unlike the rest of the country.

Science is a hell of a lot more appealing to me than Math. My brother-in-law to be is a math teacher, I think in 3rd grade. I'm marrying into a family where the oldest sister of my girl and previously referenced husband are both teachers, and the middle sister is a Special Ed. teacher. No challenge in talking shop with these people.

Thank you both. I can use The Box to teach alcohol awareness. :p

I did once, while subbing, invent a lecture off the cuff. The class told me (very convincingly) that the video the teacher had left behind was something they had seen many times. It was a science class, and the video was about heat and heat transferance. I asked them if they were doing physics-type classwork, and they said yes. I was Air Force at the time, so I did 30 minutes on how bombs and missiles work...fragmentation, explosives, fuzing, rocket motors, missile guidance, that kind of stuff. A girl in the class enlisted a few months later.

Any of the resident SPG-ites know or hear anything about the W opening in FLL? They sent me emails about job openings, rejected my first application, and I just got e-solicited again for the same job that they rejected me for earlier. I know it's a new property, but haven't heard anything about a postponement or some such thing.

I keep getting them but sporacicly. One receipt today for 6 reservations that I bought, of course this receipt is the one I since canceled. I reviewed everything online and found nothing.

Maybe we are witnessing the meltdown of the CO computers? Perhaps the bunker is filling with water!

I've been randomly getting paper receipts for e-tickets from Continental every now and then for over 10 years now. It's certainly not a new issue.

Economists would teach about imperfect information (e.g. why we fly for free in F).

After digging through my records, I found an additional $25 back on my tax return by itemizing deductions (at a cost of only $997 in airfare to serve a non-profit ...)

Nice! Sounds like a great trip. ^

After close to a month, I'm still looking for somewhere to go during the last weekend in March. I've considered most of the European deals (DUB, SNN, MXP and FCO are off limits right now), a bunch of the Carribean deals (although, hotels are quite pricey), Canada () and a few places in the US. I've run out of ideas (and I'm open to any suggestions)...

I never knew it could be so hard to decide on a long weekend destination...

Too cool. I can't wait to get to the Grand Canyon.

I had airfare/rail, $100/night hotel, & $20/trip for incidentals. Driving to airport and parking at the airport were part of the $20. A few years ago when it was $75/ night hotel we'd always be in $190 SPG or Hyatt properites. Since going up to $100 we been real close to that number wth Hilton, Marriott, Crowne Plaza, and a couple of Fairmonts.
